Light behind Bonne radio display by debbiec1

These tend to burn out after 5 yrs or so and my cousin replaired his for his mom and dad's Bonne. Now ours is going out too and he said he pulled the radio, popping the dash and then taking out 4 screws, (theirs was a 97) and sent it to a place he got from ebay, radio repair dot com or something like that. They have pictures of the various radios and replace the bulb and send it back for like 39 bucks postpaid. MUCH better than dealer estimate.
So this is a common repair and sounds like an easy one to do at home.... but I haven't tried it yet because my daughter would rather be looking at a darkened digital clock than be without her music for a whole week......

and by the way, everyone who has one loves these cars.... No one gets just one.

Part of radio display out by inocean

Hi. This is my first post to this forum. I just bought a used 2001 Bonneville and half of the display on the radio is out. I believe the bulbs behind the display may be out. I want to try replacing the lights/LEDs but if I disconnect the radio, and then reconnect it later, will that lock the radio? I do not have any locking codes, so I'm afraid to disconnect the radio.
Also is there a way to find the locking code on my radio just in case I need it later?
Thanks.

My display went out in my 99' Bonneville, and I fixed it myself. It took a bit of searching for the right bulb, but with some help from my local dealer, we were able to order one. Shipping cost more than the bulb, but the total was only about $10. Just make sure you don't have the radio "locked" before you take it out and apart.

How do you remove a radio-cd player without ruining the plastic around it?

Various bulbs can be made to work from Radio Shack's assortment. I've seen descriptions of how people have done these.

The wood-like plastic trim strips typically pop out. Gentle test around different spots. It helps if you find a description with pictures that someone puts up that shows exactly how for your type car. And yours is in a console rather than the dash like I'm used to on H-bodies.
