Mazda CX-7 & XM Satellite Radio by laurelc

I recently purchased a XM radio w/ car kit & am having the worse problems getting reception due to 2 things:

1) XM says for best recepton use the cassette adaptor, but the CX-7 does not come equipped with a cassette deck
2) If you don't have that than use the XM Sure Connect which attahes to your FM antenna. Well the FM antenna on the Mazda is too fat for this attachement

In turn I can not get well enough reception when driving. I can not get it professionally installed b/c I am leasing the vehicle. Has anyone else experienced this or does anyone have any suggestions for me??? Help!!

LaurelC, I purchased a RoadyXT for my brother and my father for Christmas, and there's definitely a difference in quality of sound between having a cassette player in the car for use with the Roady, although my Brother's Ford F150 has the thin whip antenna on the outside by the hood, so I was able to attach the Sure Connect to it. My father has a 1999 Izuzu Trooper which has the cassette deck and it works with no problems and no having to connect the Sure Connect. My original XM tuner was the original Roady2 which I had in my 2002 Nissan Maxima which had a cassette deck and sounded great! Two years ago, my Maxima was totalled in a car accident and I ended up getting a Lexus RX350, which had no cassette deck. So I had the XM installed in the Lexus by the dealer and keep the Roady for when I sometimes rent a car to take for traveling. But the Roady never had the Sure Connect, so I haven't had any problems with it.

So I guess you're not getting a good connection by just mounting the magnetic antenna somewhere on the roof of your CX-7? Have you called XM to ask about this? I understand where you wouldn't be able to connect it to the CX-7 antenna as it is thicker and also mounted on the rear part of the roof of the car. Let me know what you find out. On another note, although this may be a moot point with XM and Sirius merging now, I was a little frustrated when shopping for cars two years ago because I was already an XM subscriber, but certain auto makers were only providing Sirius, such as BMW, Audi and Mazda. At the time, I think only Acura, Lexus and Nissan were offering XM or the choice of XM or Sirius. I preferred having a choice back then.

Oh, well. Good luck, and I'd like to hear how this works out for you. Thanks.
