The speed odometer stopped working on our 1998 Nissan Frontier Pickup. Any suggestions on what the problem might be and how we might be able to fix it?

Thank you.

Gas sensor issue with 2005 Nissan Frontier by ljp4

I have read from other blogs that many Nissan owners are having problems with their fuel gauge reading. I too am now having problems. All at once, my 2005 Nissan Frontier's fuel gauge has started going bonkers. It reads full fuel okay, but once it gets to about half full, it will drop to empty and the yellow near empty light comes on. Also, the Service Engine light also comes on until I fill-up again after a while. The other thing is that I keep my mileage setting to DTE (distance to empty), and once the gauge gets to about half full, the DTE reading goes to all dashes, so I really have no idea as to how much gas I have left, or what distance I can drive until I really have to fill up again.

I called a Nissan service rep, and he told me that I would have to pay $90 just for them to hook the scope to it, but he thought it sounds like the sensor located in the gas tank has gone bad. After reading all the other people with the same problem, it sure sounds to me like Nissan needs to look at this problem.

Has anyone else had this same problem, and did Nissan take care of the problem for free?

Yes, I had a similar problem with my '06, except my Service Engine Soon lamp lit. It was covered under warranty, as I was within the time period. If your SES light is lit, it's very likely the same problem. If so, there's a TSB on it.

TSB: NTB07069 - Fuel gauge is erratic, inaccurate, or inoperative. And/or The MIL is "ON" with DTC P0461, P0462, or P0463 stored in Self-Diagnosis. Replace the fuel level sending unit.

It's not a hairy fix. They drop the fuel tank (they ask you to come in when it's near empty to lighten it up) and replace the fuel sender and I think there's a guard in there they need to replace too. Good luck.

2001 Frontier no power to OBD by dunkin1

Have no power to On Board Diagnostics, so I can't get inspection. Unclear from fuse diagram which fuse is used for this, so I can change it - any ideas? May not be fuse, but it's someplace to start.

I have a similar problem. The background light to the speedometer, tach, and gearshift selector suddenly went out. I can't see how fast I'm driving at night. I've taken the dash apart 6 times, found no loose connections, checked every fuse. Any ideas where to look? The dealer told me they'd have to tear it apart and look for broken connections, which is what I did.

Sometimes vehicles are purposely wired this way so that the driver gets an immediate warning that one or both brake lamps are burned out. It's probably not the root of your trouble, but it's worth a check.
