I'm not concerned with the tech aspects so much as the sales volume. How few Avalons can Toyota make and sell in a model year before the accounting dept says stop because we make no money? The Avalon is a great value. The size, gas mileage, relative price, etc., are unbeatable. Even if you make it alongside a Camry line it's still a separate car.
But, if you are right, a redesigned Lexus GS at maybe $36k, plus tax, w/Nav...a roomy backseat and a generous trunk... lead me to the dealership, I'm ready !!

I would like to see the Crown Majesta take the place of the Avalon:

don't buy all of this - the Avalon selling particularily well to the same older demographic it always has, with size not available on anything other than a LS. And it outperforms many smaller cars at the gas pumps as well as the drag strip. Would Toyota discontinue some of its V8 models, perhaps , although I seriously doubt that folks that are out spending the extra bucks for an GS, SC or LS are worried too much about $5 gas. The 05 Avalon begat the 07 Camry and the ES350 the size differences not all that significant, but there still remains a solid market for something called an Avalon as THE premium Toyota. Not everything considered 'luxurious' needs to have that 'L' on the grille, and nor could a Camry be accepted as a vehicle on the same level as an Avalon (even if it is essentially the truth) Why would Toyota want to fix something that ain't broke?

Or should I buy a 2009?
I had a 96 xl and loved it. I have an 05 Limited that I bought the 3rd day they were out in Feb. of 05. The only vehicle I've ever paid close to sticker for.
I was planning on buying a new one in 2010 but if they are going to be discontinued I'll suck it up and buy an 09.

You may already be aware of this, but the 2010 Avalon lives on.

Hope they will continue building it as I plan to buy a new one next year.
I have a 98 XL with over 140Kmiles. Just completed 1st timing and other belts, water pump and seals replacement. It runs great and plan to keep it for as long I can maintain it.
