Only problem with doing that though, is that I might go for awhile without having to fill up, but when I do, they all need it all at once. So when two '79 New Yorkers with 21 gallon tanks, a '76 LeMans with a 22 (I think, might also be a 21), an '85 Silverado with a 16 gallon tank (the second one is disabled), and a '67 Catalina with 26 gallons all cry "feed me" at the same time, it can get expensive!   Once the nice weather's over, though, the old cars won't get driven as much. Location Winston-Salem NC   RUG had been hovering around $3.50 or so locally for the last couple of weeks. The station I frequent was at $3.45 Thursday morning. The insanity started around Thursday afternoon/evening. A regional chain began requesting that customers purchase a maximum of 10 gallons at a time in anticipation of shortages due to Hurricane Ike. My usual station was at $3.55 Friday morning. They were at $3.69 by 4:00pm with lines of cars on the surrounding streets. The five o'clock news came on and was reporting widespread panic and gouging. Prices were all over the place with many stations already out of at least RUG. There were reports from a nearby towns of RUG at $5.35 to $5.40. I told my wife I had to see for myself what was going on, so I went for a ride (had to run to the grocery anyway, so I just took the long way ) Another station I frequent was out of all grades of gas. Their sign showed $3.69 for RUG. I rode down a major thoroughfare. Every station had lines out into the streets. Signs said $3.69 to $4.19 for RUG. The $4.19 station had no lines, but was still doing a brisk business. Station by the grocery was at $3.89 and the lines looked to be about 30 to 45 minutes long. When I returned home about 30 minutes or so later, I passed a station where the lines were gone. I watched as a few pulled up to the pumps and then pulled away. Obviously out of gas. My usual station was now at $3.99 and the lines were longer. This morning there are reports of $5.99 RUG in the area. I have not ventured out to see the carnage yet.

President Bush commented on Hurricane Ike this morning. He said, "The storm has yet to pass and I know there are people concerned about their lives." He promised the government will monitor gas prices in the wake of Ike to make sure "consumers are not being gouged."   You can report gas gouging at this website:   http://gaswatch.energy.gov/

Replying to: andre1969 (Sep 13, 2008 5:12 am) Only problem with doing that though, is that I might go for awhile without having to fill up, but when I do, they all need it all at once   Andre, you are going to have to work on phasing all the cars, so that you only fill have to fill one tank, or two at the most, per month!

At least you'd think that was the headline from the way these bandits are raising prices. Friday morning RUG $3.59---Friday PM RUG $3.77.   I'm breaking out the sandbags and boarding up the windows. I won't be buying any gas.

Replying to: dave8697 (Sep 13, 2008 3:35 pm) the news showed lots of states charging $5 for gas.   Luckily for me it only jumped about $0.20 from yesterday, up to $3.799. Also, I won't have to fill up again until Friday at the earliest, even though I filled yesterday. I'm still peeved that I couldn't put gas in my car yesterday morning. It was $3.429 in the morning and $3.599 in the afternoon. Didn't have money in the morning to buy it though. A little annoyed, but I'll get over it.
