Replying to: lemmer (Sep 11, 2008 5:49 am) On any given weekend in San Diego there are several conventions with the associated parties going on. They are paid for by some corporation. I know the ones I went to tied to the Cellular business always had Federal people in attendance from the FCC and who knows what else. Whatever the cost it is a tax deduction. Now multiply that times all the cities in the USA that cater to conventions. Billions are spent wining and dining people that can do those corporations some good. It sounds like the Minerals people know how to get the best parties going. If they ever cut off that tax loophole most of the convention centers in the US would go broke. PS I bet none of those convention goers worry about $4 gas. It is all a write-off.

Replying to: lemmer (Sep 12, 2008 5:38 am) I guess Exxon and Valero shut down operations to ride out the storm, which impacted gas prices along the Texas coast nearby. I am not expecting prices to jump near me unless a significant portion of oil production is put out of commission by Ike.
