I have a 5-gallon gas can I use for the lawn equipment, and I think I've had to fill it up three times, and it's still about half-full. So, about 12-13 gallons so far. We have two tractors, a 1969 and a 1990 Montgomery Ward. The "new" one was out of commission for about a month, so we were relying on the old one. It's a bit of a guzzler compared to the new one. Heavy sucker, too. There's a low spot in my grandmother's yard that sometimes stays wet. The new tractor would just go right over it, or, at the worst, get a little stuck, to where the wheel would lose traction, and I'd just have to get off and push it. The old one sunk right in, though! And despite having some form of posi-traction (both wheels spin, rather than just one) it just dug itself in deeper, and pushing it out was a 2-man job!

| ...is that a two-gallon can of gasoline lasts all summer to fuel both my lawnmower and weedwhacker and that's for two properties! | |

But, then again, I don't have a boat, rv, motorcycle, etc. that uses up the precious resource. With rains we have been having in N IL, grass needs cutting twice/week. If gas soon goes back up to $4.30 like last year, then weekly 2 cuts will cost perhaps $20+ per week. Make up for that expense by not going to Cubs games. |

Grass desperately needs to be cut...been about 3 weeks since I hit up my yard and 5 since I've done my grandmother's Normally I like to cut it every two weeks, whether it needs it or not. |

We take the boat out is often as possible, and I'm still burning $4.30/gal gas from last fall. Haven't put gas in the boat yet this year, we were out Sunday and I think we are down to about 1/2 a tank. I met a guy this weekend at the lake that was a heavy equipment operator in Chicago. He drives an f250 to work and back. His commute is 103 miles each way!! |

I know a small engine mechanic who says use premium in all 1 cyl engines. It only costs a few pennies and makes them easier to start.

I had to rebuild the carb in my lawn tractor after only 3 years, and my John Deere push mower has had two carb rebuilds, but it's going on 13 years old. Always starts on the first pull. Both have Briggs and Stratton engines. I always use Stabil, but the lawn tractor came with our house which we bought in 07, so it may not have been stored properly the winter before I got it. I have a Stihl grass trimmer that's also 13 years old and it always starts right up and I've never done anything to it. It's starting to get a bit weak, so I'm thinking it maybe losing compression and probably about time to replace it. It's never had premium either. |
