Yeah but you live downstate, here in the Chicago land area where most people in IL live RUG is in the 2.10-2.20 range, E-85 is just under $2.00.

I would like to see some hybrid features in every vehicle. Such as, auto engine start/stop at traffic light

That's a great idea. Probably wouldn't be too hard to implement or retrofit either. Beef up the starter and throw a couple of sensors in. You'd probably save tons more gas than those guys chasing the X Prize will ever save.

Yeah, I'm near Champaign.

I don't know how many stations have E85. I know the few stations I always go to offer it. E85 has always been cheaper here until the last few weeks. Maybe my locals stations don't sell a whole lot of it and still have 2-3 week old e85 in the tank, thus they haven't bought any at the lower prices. I don't know, but just a theory.

That's about $75 a pop for a medium steak, $10 for a salad, baked potatos are extra... about $5, drinks another $10... then dessert, $10. Unless Al Gore shows up to help with the bill, larsb can plan on spending about $140 per person. "
Yum as well, go protein. A Ruth Chris here in Houston as well. $1.77 rug four days ago before the big drop, Shell station, NW Houston. I can smell $1.50. So it will be the 12 oz filet, baked potato and asparagus. Opec will try and cut 1m bbls/day on the 29th of Nov, Failing that a second try in Dec. But when you break the paradigm and are faced with reality, pump it out quick and sell for as much as you can get. Oh yeah and cheat on your quotas. The oil market doth love it's extremes. The larsb world tour should prove... nutritional.

A friend of mine said his 2003 Jetta 1.8T costs $400 in maint and repairs every 3000 miles. He has had the car for over 60,000 miles. It was a year and a half old when he got it. He was proud of it's gas mileage.

Locally for me, Diesel is 2.89 and RUG is 1.83.

Back to the pain percent by dave8697

$1.83 is price as of yesterday
30 mile commute is less than a gallon each way or about $60 a month. It used to be $120 a month in 17 mpg 4X4. Commute used to be 47 miles each way when gas was $3.00. That was $310 a month so I drove other vehicles that get 23-28 mpg.

Still, if old pain index was 4.4%, new one is under 1%. Thats commute only, not total family driving. total family driving could be 2 times my commute now, and was 1.5 times commute when commute was 47 miles each way.

Do I deserve the comfort of a large car? by dave8697

At $310 a month to get to work, a large truck does not make sense.
The truck can haul a large load of large, heavy objects over a long distance. I used mine to move, to haul my son's go-cart places, to do work on properties in another state where I carried 1000 lbs of supplies and got 18.5 mpg on 87 octane with a V8. Two Yaris' couldnt have done the job.

My large car got 30 on a trip. 3600 lb empty car, 4 people, 20 gallons of gas, 400 lbs luggage in trunk.

Fortunately, I never had any trouble with my Jetta TDI. But I only had it for one year and 35k miles, then I sold it for nearly what I paid for it, so I can't complain.

The reason for selling it was my wife got a company car and we still needed a minivan at the time. I couldn't justify keeping the jetta around, so I sold it.

Sorry, carnivores. Just did a search of the "Automotive News and Views" database and no entries exist of me offering anyone a steak dinner.

Good luck with that, though !!!
