I can go to the shopping mall and the walmart. I just can't go to the refuse station. But I can ride my bicycle from here to San Diego if my lungs and legs were up to it. At this point they are not. But the fuel prices have effected my mindset and unlike most Californians I just don't believe I have to drive everywhere. When I take out the Pontiac we always combine errands. That way I only put gas in it every three weeks. Gas was $2.99 at the downtown Colorado Springs Shamrock today. Almost made my face break from my smile. I no longer believe we should have bailed out wall street. Maybe gas would have fallen below $2.00 by now? |

With the direction of the US$ vs the JY and the Euro over the last 12 months it would be foolish and a huge business error to increase sales in the US with its increasingly worthless currency. To maintain or increase sales in the US while limiting sales in Europe or Asia is like setting money on fire. Now when the RAV and the Prius are made here soon ( Nov 08 and 2010 ) there will likely be a spike in volume because the currency issue will be gone. TheFJ is dead. The 4Runner will return to its roots in the desert and the LC will remain for a chosen few.

Every auto retailer is in dire straits today. I'd expect a 20-50% reduction in total buying across the board for the next 6 months, Buyers right now are just sitting on their hands. I'd expect with annual sales at the 13 million unit rate that as many as 40-50% of the domestic stores will close their doors and Toy/Honda will each be down 20+%. Every store in our area is running skinny with layoffs in all salaried positions. Former salaried positions are being offered positions on the floor ( sell or starve ) or out the door.

I know you , meant well, being fuel efficient, versus wasteful . Thanks, sincerely for the mea culpa but here is how the real world works. It was never supply vs demand as the demand was gamed., They are running for the hills. Paradigm = busted . I'm glad you drive a Prius. You drive some serious miles and even at the coming low levels it will make sense. Who does Chin-India sell to ? While we were not in global recession in the 1st half of this year we are now. Time to change the name of this forum, Oh did I say that before |
