Oh, now you are changing the game in mid-stream.

$2 gas in BumFrick Indiana and no place else does not mean we got $2 gas back.

$2 gas means most of America can buy it for $2.

$2 gas means the EIA and AAA both rate the USA Average price at $2 or below.

THAT'S the metric I'm using.

It will be interesting to see what you and others do in the future if oil prices stay relatively low. I think history will repeat itself. What do I mean?

The world went thru price shocks and shortages in the 70's, 80's and around the 1st Gulf War in '91. People downsized to 4 cyl 40mpg Escorts, Chevelles and such. But when gas-prices moderated people trended back to larger, more powerful vehicles, which the manufacturers then saw the trend for. You don't have 40mpg, 2000Lb Ford Escorts and Chevy Chevelle type cars being sold.

People with 50 mile commutes though really do need to bet on high-prices and stay efficient.

You are absolutely correct. It is all cyclical. I ran into a guy at Lowes. He had the cleanest 1984 Mitsubishi PU truck. In big letters on the side it said Turbo Diesel. So I talked to him. He bought it new because of the price of gas in 1983. It now has 270k+ miles and still going strong. He just happen to span the cycles. He told me they built that model from 1983-85. Then gas prices started down and folks went for the 0-60 MPH rather than the high MPG. It will happen again. It is human nature. When gas gets back in the low $2 range this fall you will see an upsurge in large vehicles. No one really wants to ride around in a Yugo unless they are a masochist.

Look at that post from March. You gave up your $2 pipe dream.

Weak moment. I got the faith back. I did not give completely up. I did say it was bleak. Someone just posted $2.58 in Ohio. Dropping like a rock. Hope you shorted oil futures.

"...I never made any predictions..."

Post #65--July, 16 2008 (3:23 pm). larsb wrote:

"The average USA price today rose to another ALL - TIME HIGH of $4.114. What in the WORLD could happen to make gas lose $1.114 a gallon in the next 120 days? It would require an oil price drop of at least 25% by September and have oil not go back up.
And demand would have to DROP significantly worldwide.
Be specific in what you think could happen to make it drop 27% in 120 days!!!"

That was your response to a poster who predicted $3 gas by November. Sounded like a prediction of what would NOT happen but still a prediction.

BTW, oil is down to about $75 today. ( That's down 49% in 97 days)

COME ON $2 GAS!

Was not a prediction on oil prices. Was a statement that said "anything that would make gas drop $1.114 a gallon would require an oil drop of 25%."

( By the way - the "$3 gas by November" guy is still going to be wrong. Gas price would have to drop about 30 cents in the next 17 days. )

Statements are not necessarily predictions. I will prelude any prediction I make with "I PREDICT...."

I predicted a long time ago that $2 gas as a USA Average (which is the metric that is commonly used) is as gone as the 5 cent candy bar.

And I'm sticking with that...........

We didn't realize we had to read your posts like a legal agreement If you don't put "I Predict", what are the statements - hearsay, assumption, your wishes? But it is not you who were so insistent on gas prices would stay high.

I think it was kdh, who insisted that he knew the U.S. and the rest of the world economies would simply pay $0.50/gal more per year. To which I kept saying that people especially in the developing world could not pay these sorts of increases based on their incomes.

News alert !! No bubble! - whether Internet stocks, housing prices, or skyrocketing oil prices is sustainable!

Just part of the dynamic of forums like this.

If you don't specify, people ASSUME things about what you mean.

To make oneself as clear as possible, specificity is required.....
