06 RAV4 Thinks it's not in Park, will not start

Doesn't happen all the time. But sometimes when we turn the key, nothing happens. All the dash lights light up, we got battery. The car seems to not know it's in Park. If we jiggle the shift lever, it's happy again and will start. My question: is this a fix-it-myself job? Is it just a loose wire or screw? We are going on a long trip soon and I don't want it to break for good while we are away. Any advice? Thank you.
