I own a 2001 BMW 325XI with 92,000 miles. Two recent repairs--thermostats and expansion tank & throttle body and engine wire harness--have been costly. BMW service advisors tell me to expect things to happen due to high mileage. I'm seeking advice from experienced BMW owners--to keep my car or purchase a new vehicle, as I do not want to put thousands of dollars into a vehicle on an annual basis.

Why did you need a new throttle body and wiring harness? I've never had to replace either on any BMW I've owned- and I've owned eight since 1983. Are you a BMW CCA member? If so, you can connect with local chapter members who can point you to some good independent shops. And most dealers and shops offer 10%-25% discounts to CCA members. You shouldn't have to spend thousands of dollars- unless you have a dealer that is really trying to stick it to you. I'd advise setting aside $75-$90 per month. That should more than cover maintenance and repair costs. You can save even more money by performing oil services yourself. It's a dead easy job that takes all of |
