Replying to: ata10 (Dec 18, 2008 1:26 pm) While driving by my nearby Kia dealer in Quakertown PA, I noticed a Soul in the showroom. Stopped in to take a look and was impressed with the fit, finish and room in the vehicle. What is even more interesting was that the engine was the 1.6 diesel. Salesmen claim this will not be available in the U.S. but it will get 50 mpg. I can't imagine Kia shipping maybe a 1,000 or more diesel engine cars and not selling them. Are they going to ship them back to Korea? If even a small town dealer has one, I would guess all the U.S. dealers have diesel Soul. This is the logic for my guess of 1000 in the U.S. Anyone know the real story on this. I would buy the diesel version of the Soul in a minute. Dealer told me gas engine cars will be available in March. Not so much interested in the gas engine since I would buy a Xb before a Kia. Very impressive, much nicer IMHO than the xB. Salesman said that it would be unveiled at the St. Louis Auto Show, which would be the end of this month. Replying to: csandste (Jan 03, 2009 7:40 pm) I work for a Kia dealership in the office and I can tell you that the reason that you can not test drive the ones in the dealership now is because they do not pass USA tests. I don't know if they are going to work on the ones that they already shipped here or not so that people can drive and buy these cars but I do know that at some point there are going to be alot around. They are really nice.

Replying to: csandste (Jan 13, 2009 8:31 pm) Had an 06.5 Optima that was one of the worst cars I've ever owned. 07s were fine. I'll still wait at least a year before getting serious about a Soul. Have been involved in the automotive field for almost 40 years. Exceptions are the rule.

The Soul, from the article, seems to have the "soul" that so many Korean products and lots of Toyotas products lack. Styling is a subjective thing, but does anyone else think it looks like the offspring of a Kia Rio and Dodge Nitro? It's unique and it would be a tough choice between the Soul and Scion Xb. As long as Kia build quality is under control, this vehicle should do OK. About the only thing that would keep me from buying one is that Korean cars depreciate so badly.

buying or not buying a car, IMO. Especially an exciting new Kia offering like the Soul. I have owned two new Kia's and they beat the domestic competition...and in my view they top some of the Japanese offerings, for build and tightness of structure. The Long-Haul Warranty is pretty hard to beat as well. But unless you're gonna sell your Soul in two or three years I wouldn't worry about depreciation of your new Kia. It's the car you're buying, not it's lack of appreciatable value. Right?

I like hatches and am a huge Mazda fan but something got me all jazzed up about this car. Now, it won't compare to the drive of a Mazda but all the cool features, price and utility got me. It felt spacious inside and had neat storage bins underneath, cool two tone interiors, cool fun appliques you can add, bluetooth, MP3 jack, lighting options, spoiler, cool rims, interior aplliques...just way cool and I am 43 years old!(female) If it drives with enough pep it may just be my next car.
