2008 Highlander Limited - Stereo speakers faulty in heat by juliewax

I have a 2008 Highlander Limited; and my stereo speakers are sporadically faulty. It seems as though when the car is left in the hot sun for some time (e.g., 1hr+), the stereo speakers don't work upon startup but produced a muffled sound much much lower than the actual volume. But once I start driving with the a/c, the problem clears up after about 10 minutes. This also makes my bluetooth inoperable during that time since the speakers are essentially not working.

Anyone else experience this?? I brought it to my dealer this morning; but they said they couldn't do anything until they can reproduce it (i.e., hold onto it for a day or so). ugh.....

Thanks,
Julie

I have the same problem with my 2008 highlander. I don't recall having this problem the first month I had the vehicle.

This problem just started two weeks ago during my road trip to Minnesota, a six hours drive from Milwaukee. I had the cd player playing and sporadically I heard a thunder like sound coming from the rear. I couldn't tell what the sound was and where it was coming from.

A week after I returned from the trip, the problem started again. Since then the sound comes on more often and that was when I noticed that the sound came from the rear speaker. I think this is a subwoofer not a speaker. It gets stranger, the sound only comes on when the cd player is playing but does not come on when the radio is playing. I know the problem is not the CD because this happens to all of the cds in the cd changer.

I'm planning on taking the vehicle to the dealer but I know it will be a bit difficult to explain the problem because you can't duplicate the problem unless the cd player is playing and it could take some time for the thunder rolling sound to reproduce.
