I installed an aftermarket stereo in my 2008 Nissan Altima. Now my airbag light located on top of my fuel gauge has started flashing intermittenly and will not shut off even after I hook the stock stereo back up. Of course the manual refers you to the dealer for a measly $160!! I'm not paying that so they can hook up a diagnostic machine and say oh here you got a wire unhooked or something. anybody got any ideas?

the only thing I can think of is, make sure everything is hooked up correctly and then disconnect the battery. with some luck, the system will reset itself. If that fails, try searching the altima forums over at nissanclub on how to reset everything. I'm positive there is a way, and pretty sure its disconnecting the battery, but I'm not 100% sure.

Well when I put the aftermarkte stereo in the battery was disconnected. I'll disconnect the battery then put the old stereo in and hook the battery back up and see if that works.

I replaced my head unit w/o disconnecting the car battery. Luckly I was under warranty and the dealer "reset" the airbag system light. To avoid this DONOT disconnect the wires under the vent fixture. It is not necessary to disconnect it in order to reach the radio screws. If you want to you could disconnect the battery AND de-energize the airbag system(Or let the car sit for an hour or two).

Unfortunately the car manufactures are not obligated to reveal computer codes to independent mechanics. So the very best of luck getting the reset procedure(I'm sure it will be very simple and quick). Hopefully everyone will know in time and through the internet. Mike

Yeah that sounds like it would work. I just haven't had time to mess with it. Hopefully it does worj though because the service specialist at the dealership said that none of the airbags will work if that light is on!

Turns out if you disconnect the battery you reset some systems including the auto up/down on our windows! The link corrects for that too.
