Cirrus rpms at idle by motoringmama

I bought a used 1998 Cirrus with the 2.5 L engine. I have noticed that at idle, without any air or anything running, the cars idles between 500 to 800 rpms. What is normal in this situation? Sometimes it sounds like it is racing to me and I don't know if this just typical of this sort of engine. Can anyone shed any light on this?
Thanks in advance.
