well, actually I love it. It's the best looking thing to come out of lincoln in a long time. I would definitely perfer it over other japaneese luxary brands. Its just too expesive, but at least they gave it alot of standard features. It's the most competetive thing to come out of lincoln in a good long while. I dont see why they came down hard on it (or at least tried to) in the review for nothing. Did it not live up to the reputation of the town car or something?

I read this review to see the MKS compared even in passing to something else that's sitting on the Inside Line front page - the Hyundai Genesis. They're direct competitors on many fronts except a big one - price. I'm still waiting to see how or why an MKS is worth a $5K premium over a Genesis V6, or how much worse things are when one compares a Genesis V8 and the MKS Ultimate. For $5K less than the MKS Ultimate, the Genesis V8 has an additional 100 hp and, to add insult to injury, gets 1 mpg higher EPA highway ratings (same city mpg). With those numbers, I'm betting on LS-like incentives on this thing as soon as the novelty wears off - say, 3 months after they hit the dealers.

With Cadillac actually innovating on one side, the entrenched imports on another, and Hyundai stepping up their game in a serious way IMHO the MKS is deep trouble, 8600 pre-sales or not. Maybe calling this the LS II would have been more appropriate.

I don't know why you would pick the MKS alone to compare the Genesis to.

The Genesis is 28,000 less than a Lexus LS when comparably equipped. 25,000 less than a 5-series, and about 12,000 less than an M-45.

Also, I'm not sure if the MKS and Genesis are in the same size class. The MKS is almost 10 inches longer than the Genesis.

WOW, Edmunds You all just bash the american cars day in day out. If you seriously feel this way about the product that this country has to offer, Why don't you pack your bags and ship out? Many other journalists out there have gave some pretty good reviews about the MKS. You attempt to devalue the product by continuously mentioning ford any place you can is quite sophomoric. When you review acura or lexus not once do you mention their lesser brand which is just as guilty of platform sharing as Lincoln is. If you compare it with other luxury brands what you are paying for and getting is still less than any of the competing cars out there. As far as i am concerned you need to get off of your knees for these cross seas brands that are you infatuated with. Clean the leftovers off of your chin and stand up, because you are blowing it. You bashed the MKX and it continues to out perfrom many of its competitors. The MKZ continues to rack up the awards.

As far as you all talking about the serious Coin, A person able to afford such vehicle wants to get the best bang for their buck. And this car is it. Hence 8600 pre orders.
Edmunds come out of your metro-sexual closet look up. Lincoln is Back!!!

The problem is that there are cars around the same price range (probably less) like the new Hyundai Genesis that are RWD and V8 equipped (with better gas mileage 17/25). While this is a better car than Lincoln has produced in the past, it still falls a bit short. Had they produced this car 3-5 years ago, it would have been perfect.

BTW, the MKX is wonderful at accelerating. I just hope you don't want to stop to quick or perform high speed maneuvers like an emergency lane change. Interior materials are also subpar for the class.

Lincoln just need to put the whole package together at the same time. You're right about Lincoln being back though.... sort of.

The Real funny thing here is that you are trying to compare a Hyundai to a Lincoln. Let me guess you go to wal-mart trying to compare their George line, to Armani. The great thing about the MKX is its an IIHS top safety pick for rear end accidents. You may want to be in one for the next time you get railed.

If you don't think these cars are competitors you need to wake up. First of all, Lincoln is not the brand it used to be, its barely considered on par with Buick these days. In other words, they have no right to be complacent. Secondly, have you even seen the Genesis? It has RWD, a V8 that puts out 375hp, all the same luxury features of the MKS and is getting great reviews.

The sad thing is that Ford executives seem to have the same mindset that you do-Lincoln is great we just need to get people in the seats. No, they need to make Lincoln great, that will get people in the seats.

You're not doing them a favor by raving about their current offerings, they need to hear the real honest truth and sincere criticism for them to get better.

Don't try to pull any of that elitist crap. Lincoln's still no where near where it was or where it should be. While the Azera and Veracruz are more in Buick's league instead of Lincoln. The Genesis blows the doors off any current Lincoln. Try reading Edmunds review of the Genesis. While I respect your opinion, I just happen to know that you're wrong. Here's a link for you even though I know you've already made up your mind.

Full Test: 2009 Hyundai Genesis Sedan

The new Genesis is 375hp. Unless you are not math inclined, that's a full 100hp more than the MKS. Add to that the fact that it gets 1mpg better on the highway.

At a stopping distance of over 150ft., you're alot more likely to need those safety features. Also, name a Hyundai that's not a top safety pick.

I haven't wasted my time to do research on the hyundai, nor care to, but thanks for your insight. I obviously wasn't talking about an actual accident, i was referring to something else. Maybe you should remove your head from the area i was referencing and you would have caught that. That engine isn't the standard engine being offered in hyundai either its an option. So if you would compare equivalents please. But you can't, Lincoln and Hyundai DON'T COMPARE. Lincoln's aren't for every one my friend. If you think people will have a hard time justifying spending that much on a lincoln, wait until hyundai tries asking for that much for one of their cars.
