It would be interesting to compare this vehicle against the
Cadillac DTS or Buick Lucerne .

THANK YOU!!! I was feeling like a solo act here. Thanks for coming on stage!!! Why is edmunds not responding to these posts? Their mainstream marketing pleasing attitude is for the sheep!! Hopefully as this vehicle becomes more readily available for the masses and those who can afford it, they will come on here and discredit everything, this poor excuse for a journalist, has knocked Lincoln for. In the meantime, all of you hyundai lovers out there. Have you tried to buy a used one lately and have a bank other than hyundai finance it or even a kia for that fact. The list of who will finance them is pretty short!! Now why is this?

I will agree that the interior looks nicer than anything Ford has ever produced, however, the exterior is completely generic . The real question is.... WHO IS GOING TO BUY THIS CAR??? These will not sell. The only demographic I can picture this car appealing to is the 60+ year old crowd and they already have a favorite overweight American branded "luxury" car and that's the Cadillac DTS. And to address the comment about platform sharing, not everyone does it, and those companies that do share, do it better than FoMoCo. The Lincoln's, MKX and MKZ look way too similar to their Ford siblings. Oh yeah, and I'm sick of hearing about Lincoln "reinventing" itself every year. There is nothing noteworthy or original in any Lincoln model currently offered. Can anyone say, Mark LT? Hahaha, what a joke!

Does anyone know how this 'easy-fill' fuel capless thingy works? My concern is that, unless there's some kind of opening-prevention method (maybe linked to the key fob?) that, at today's gas prices, this could turn into an 'easy-siphon' target of gas thieves.

There's still a painted metal cover of the fuel input, but once you flip that open, there is no cap to screw off. It would be as secure as a standard twist gas cap is if the flipping cover can only be opened from inside the car or when the fob is near the car. I'm not sure if the second half of that sentence describes the setup of the MKS or not.
I think the cap-less system is on the current Explorer. Maybe you could ask in an explorer forum.

It's one thing for Lincoln to share platforms with its entry level to mid price vehicles, but it's an abomination to do so on its flagship.

What if they got it from the highest priced sedan of one of it's European subsidiaries?

If it were a similiar platform as Jaguar or Aston Martin. Impossible now since both have been sold.So Lincoln should engineer a Mercedes or BMW competitor. Isn't Lincoln, Ford's premier brand since Jag and Aston are gone. Volvo was not and still is not considered to be amongst Europe's premier marks. I believe there are rumors that Volvo is on the sales block. BMW is interested in Volvo as it needs the mid price family type vehicles that Volvo offers.

I still don't understand the objection to the MKS being built on a Volvo chassis. By all accounts it is a great chassis. I also don't think that just because a vehicle, suit, T.V. , house, etc. carries an outrageous price tag (Aston Matitn ... Jag... B.M.W. etc) it is a priori a better item. Perhaps if Lincoln had price pointed this vehicle $70k it would be more appealing?? Why would anyone pay $3000 for an Armani suit????? Perception may be reality but in this case the perception is dead wrong. Lincoln has taken an excellent chassis and built a handsome, well equipped, spacious, safe, fairly priced vehicle why is that so hard to take?

Audi uses a fwd platform for some of its mid price vehicles and Audi has found a way to engineer out the tendancy for torque steer. The MKS still has that phenomenon to deal with. Another thing the MKS is not rwd sport sedan. The Cadillac CTS base is several thousand dollar cheaper than an MKS but has a direct injection 306 hp engine available and it will also out handle the MKS and out accelerate it and it is also vailable with awd.The MKS is suppose to be Lincoln's flagship. But all it is is a Taurus knock-off with more doodas and a better interior than a Taurus. The interior still is not comparable to Mercedes or BMW standards The car has nothing mechanically to separate it from its cheaper Ford cousin.I am not saying that it is a bad car.I just don't believe that it should be Lincoln's signature vehicle.
