The problem is that there are cars around the same price range (probably less) like the new Hyundai Genesis that are RWD and V8 equipped (with better gas mileage 17/25). While this is a better car than Lincoln has produced in the past, it still falls a bit short. Had they produced this car 3-5 years ago, it would have been perfect.

BTW, the MKX is wonderful at accelerating. I just hope you don't want to stop to quick or perform high speed maneuvers like an emergency lane change. Interior materials are also subpar for the class.

Lincoln just need to put the whole package together at the same time. You're right about Lincoln being back though.... sort of.

The Real funny thing here is that you are trying to compare a Hyundai to a Lincoln. Let me guess you go to wal-mart trying to compare their George line, to Armani. The great thing about the MKX is its an IIHS top safety pick for rear end accidents. You may want to be in one for the next time you get railed.

If you don't think these cars are competitors you need to wake up. First of all, Lincoln is not the brand it used to be, its barely considered on par with Buick these days. In other words, they have no right to be complacent. Secondly, have you even seen the Genesis? It has RWD, a V8 that puts out 375hp, all the same luxury features of the MKS and is getting great reviews.

The sad thing is that Ford executives seem to have the same mindset that you do-Lincoln is great we just need to get people in the seats. No, they need to make Lincoln great, that will get people in the seats.

You're not doing them a favor by raving about their current offerings, they need to hear the real honest truth and sincere criticism for them to get better.

Don't try to pull any of that elitist crap. Lincoln's still no where near where it was or where it should be. While the Azera and Veracruz are more in Buick's league instead of Lincoln. The Genesis blows the doors off any current Lincoln. Try reading Edmunds review of the Genesis. While I respect your opinion, I just happen to know that you're wrong. Here's a link for you even though I know you've already made up your mind.

Full Test: 2009 Hyundai Genesis Sedan

The new Genesis is 375hp. Unless you are not math inclined, that's a full 100hp more than the MKS. Add to that the fact that it gets 1mpg better on the highway.

At a stopping distance of over 150ft., you're alot more likely to need those safety features. Also, name a Hyundai that's not a top safety pick.

I haven't wasted my time to do research on the hyundai, nor care to, but thanks for your insight. I obviously wasn't talking about an actual accident, i was referring to something else. Maybe you should remove your head from the area i was referencing and you would have caught that. That engine isn't the standard engine being offered in hyundai either its an option. So if you would compare equivalents please. But you can't, Lincoln and Hyundai DON'T COMPARE. Lincoln's aren't for every one my friend. If you think people will have a hard time justifying spending that much on a lincoln, wait until hyundai tries asking for that much for one of their cars.

Engines of luxury models:

Genesis 290hp 375hp
RL 300hp
STS 304hp 320hp
M35 275hp 325hp

Notice that all of these cars sport the same or greater hp than the MKS's only engine. If you take optional engines into account, they all have greater hp numbers. I'm not even going to mention BMW, Audi, or Mercedes because obviously there is not reason to do so.

All Hyundai's are not equivalent to Lincoln, but the Genesis is more than up to the task. Hyundai is asking nearly that much money, but don't worry... A fully loaded Genesis is still cheaper than a fully loaded MKS despite offering more features, a more powerful engine, RWD, more refinement, etc. Lincoln (and you apparently) is in for a rude awakening once the newness wears off this vehicle. It's Lincoln who has been caught with their head up their rear. Back to the old drawing board.

Here's a side note as well. Don't worry about that Sync system because Microsoft's already signed up with Hyundai to create a similar system of their own.

Great Opportunity by carboy3

I think the Lincoln division has a great opportunity with this model. The introduction timing is excellent. Higher fuel prices are causing each of us to re-think what we really need in a vehicle without compromising our wants too much.

The MKS is poised to appeal to a very broad buying demographic age range. I believe it will be of genuine interest to 35 - 75 year olds AND I'm very confident that this is the first Lincoln that traditional Town Car buyers will give a serious look: Large interior space, ease of entry and exit, decent fuel economy, sensible exterior dimensions, all wheel drive availability for "north country" buyers, and what looks like very nice exterior styling.

I hope that Lincoln has the advertising budget to break through the clutter and let the public really know about this machine. This is the best new Lincoln in some time.

I second those comments re the combi door locks. My LS is the first Ford/Lincoln product I've owned, and I've come to love the key pad. I can leave my key in the car when going to the gym, or when getting a cup of morning joe, and not have to carry them around. It's a simple but great feature.

I do see a security issue with the new ignition system. With the current system if you did not want to be bothered with your keys, you could hide them in the car and then just use the combination lock to lock the vehicle. If someone does break-in, they would have to hunt for and find the keys to drive it away. The MKS push button system could be dangerous. If you leave the key bob in the car, hidden or not the thief does not need to worry about that, Just break the glass, jump in and press the button to start up and go. They would not need to find the bob nor would they care where it was at the time as long as it is somewhere in the vehicle, the car will start.

So that area of convenience (which I know a lot of my Ford associates do) may be compromised with the MKS. You will be forced to take the bob with you. Since it seems to be a smaller device (than the key and remote combination), this may not be such a sacrifice. But we can be some lazy people at times and it is at those times when someone can strike. I can see thieves just taking a chance of breaking in the car and pressing the button in the hopes that the bob is in the car, If not, then they just jump out and walk away. In the meantime, you are stuck with a damaged $50,000 car. Even if the alarm goes off because the bob is not in the vehicle, that will be the indicator right there and the car napper will just walk away even faster.

So one of the questions is can you lock the MKS with the bob still in the car?

Next, can you secure the car with the bob inside? In other words, can you use the keypad to secure the key bob as well? So when you come back to it, not only unlocking the vehicle code works, but 1 or 2 more digits punched in brings down a security barrier where the key bob can now be used to start it up? I think that may work.

Does anyone else see this as an issue?

Your "first drive" aritcle about the Lincoln MKS brings to mind the quote from then Vice President Spirro Agnew as Edmunds have become the "nattering nabobs of negativity" regarding anything Ford produces. Your complaints about the vehicle are unfounded period. Vehicle is good looking without being some outrageous ego driven exercise in "look at me" , safe to the max, carries an impressive list of standard features, drives well, is extremely quiet, offers an abundance of interior space, and is price pointed well. Yes, we all wish the "eco-boost" engine was available now but at 273hp in todays energy world this vehicle is powered well. Did it ever occur to you that the buying public may not all want a boy racer in the garage? I think the individual who wrote this poor excuse for automotive journalis should be put out to pasture as he is obviously a broken down old nag..
