Full Test: 2009 Lincoln MKS AWD - Bottom Line: A luxury sedan for the Ford faithful, but all others would be advised to look elsewhere as there are far better luxury sedans for the price. (more)

The 2009 Lincoln MKS might just represent the future direction of Lincoln. Or maybe it doesn't. We frankly just don't know what to expect out of Lincoln anymore. Read more and tell us what you think here! First Drive: 2009 Lincoln MKS

Replying to: KarenS (Jun 05, 2008 6:13 am) and to be honest, it's just not worth the money when better cars are available for the same or less. I applaud the styling and the interior and such......but really, noone will be cross-shopping this car and the Acura TL, Cadillac STS, BMW 5, Audi A6.....and this MKS puts itself in those cars "aspirations" with it's price! It's very pretty, but doesnt stand out in ANY WAY...not in handling, horsepower, transmission or features. I forsee hefty rebates on this JUST LIKE the MKX and the MKZ.

| It's probably not very fast considering its weight, but the lincoln's v6 makes as much power as the Cadillac DTS's northstar v8. It will be much more competitive whith other brands when the Eco Boost comes out. | |

"Ford Motor Company just can't leave the combination door locks alone. Those on the MKS are well integrated into the B-pillar and don't light up until you wave your hand over them." Personally, I wish all cars had them. It was great locking my old Explorer and going surfing or the gym and not having to carry my keys around. Looks like a nice effort on Lincoln's part, but $45K is a lot for a pretty Taurus. |

Replying to: isaacl (Jun 05, 2008 10:10 am) Why does Ford get slammed for platform sharing? Honda/Acura, Toyota/Lexus GM/Cadillac - they all do it. Why is it a problem for Ford? The author and issac can't get over the Lincoln/Ford perception. This is obviously a very nice car any way you look at it! Edumunds couldn't say anything bad about it, other than it was a Lincoln, and shares a platform with other Fords. That is hardly a valid review - If you read between the lines "...it is the smoothest and quietest in class, looks nice, drives great, has great features, all the gadgets, huge trunk, elagent interior, competitive power, competitive mileage, not mentioned - class leading safety (a positive by-product of the Taurus platform) All-wheel drive that most others don't have...but it is Lincoln/Ford, so how can we say it is good?" C'mon guys and gals, get over it! The author of the reveiw should tell us - Well Daniel, does this car hang with the Acura, Cadillac STS, Audi A6 etc??? Oh, and by the way, Keypads are by far the best option on a car. Until you have owned and used them, you will never know just how useful they are. |

| well, actually I love it. It's the best looking thing to come out of lincoln in a long time. I would definitely perfer it over other japaneese luxary brands. Its just too expesive, but at least they gave it alot of standard features. It's the most competetive thing to come out of lincoln in a good long while. I dont see why they came down hard on it (or at least tried to) in the review for nothing. Did it not live up to the reputation of the town car or something? | |

I read this review to see the MKS compared even in passing to something else that's sitting on the Inside Line front page - the Hyundai Genesis. They're direct competitors on many fronts except a big one - price. I'm still waiting to see how or why an MKS is worth a $5K premium over a Genesis V6, or how much worse things are when one compares a Genesis V8 and the MKS Ultimate. For $5K less than the MKS Ultimate, the Genesis V8 has an additional 100 hp and, to add insult to injury, gets 1 mpg higher EPA highway ratings (same city mpg). With those numbers, I'm betting on LS-like incentives on this thing as soon as the novelty wears off - say, 3 months after they hit the dealers. With Cadillac actually innovating on one side, the entrenched imports on another, and Hyundai stepping up their game in a serious way IMHO the MKS is deep trouble, 8600 pre-sales or not. Maybe calling this the LS II would have been more appropriate.

Replying to: wetwilly (Jun 05, 2008 3:21 pm) The Genesis is 28,000 less than a Lexus LS when comparably equipped. 25,000 less than a 5-series, and about 12,000 less than an M-45. Also, I'm not sure if the MKS and Genesis are in the same size class. The MKS is almost 10 inches longer than the Genesis.

it's the demographic my man....nobody is going to visit a Lincoln lot who would not otherwise be in a Ford / Mercury lot..... Nobody is checking out the Volvo S60 AND the MKs...... this car will get overlooked... and the price itself is another HUGE ISSUE...... thats serious coin |

WOW, Edmunds You all just bash the american cars day in day out. If you seriously feel this way about the product that this country has to offer, Why don't you pack your bags and ship out? Many other journalists out there have gave some pretty good reviews about the MKS. You attempt to devalue the product by continuously mentioning ford any place you can is quite sophomoric. When you review acura or lexus not once do you mention their lesser brand which is just as guilty of platform sharing as Lincoln is. If you compare it with other luxury brands what you are paying for and getting is still less than any of the competing cars out there. As far as i am concerned you need to get off of your knees for these cross seas brands that are you infatuated with. Clean the leftovers off of your chin and stand up, because you are blowing it. You bashed the MKX and it continues to out perfrom many of its competitors. The MKZ continues to rack up the awards. As far as you all talking about the serious Coin, A person able to afford such vehicle wants to get the best bang for their buck. And this car is it. Hence 8600 pre orders. Edmunds come out of your metro-sexual closet look up. Lincoln is Back!!!
