Need Kia Dealership Trouble Help... by jessicaak

Alright, I am REALLY hoping someone might be able to assist me with a problem I am having with my local Kia dealership, our only one up north here. My husband and I purchased a Spectra5 and a Rondo this last Saturday, we got a couple thousand off for buying two, plus with the rebates we thought, "what a deal!" My biggest concern though was that my Rondo has a beige interior, which with dogs and living with a gravel driveway I was not happy about, they threw in the fabric protection stuff and were like oh it's not that bad to keep clean. Never having had a beige interior I thought, okay maybe they are right...ha, should have known better, walking in and out of it one time left my new "threshholds" in the doors completely gross looking. So I call the dealership the next morning, less that 12 hrs after purchase and ask if I can get another with gray interior...I get the answer that they aren't getting anymore in, well maybe one more, but it is beige too, blah blah blah...going to get me free car mats and cargo tray...so I say okay, I love everything else, so if there's no other option okay. Well this morning I look online to find their phone number since I am having alignment issues already (grrr) and what do you know they have not one, but two with gray interiors and the one exactly like mine(LX) is selling for 21,100, I got mine for 23,500, and that was with them taking $$$ off for buying two cars....oh I am SO mad...at them and myself, I feel as though I have been completely taken! Any suggestions??? I know it's a shot in the dark, but thought someone might have a suggestion. On a side note, we LOVE our spectra5, minus a 02 sensor going out 10 hrs after we bought it...gotta love the warranty though! After YEARS of driving beater cars this mpg in them both is just fantastic!!!

Sorry, but I don't think that you have much recourse. As soon as you drive a new car off the dealer's lot, it's no longer a new car. It instantly becomes a used car, and is worth a lot less money. I doubt that any dealer would let you change cars after purchase.

As far as the price you paid, it sounds like your dealer was acting exactly like... a car dealer. In my experience, car dealers will gladly take as much money for a car as you are willing to give them, and will make you feel good about it by taking money off of (a wildly over-inflated) selling price. The only way to get a genuinely fair deal is to go in armed with information. For future reference, this web site (Edmunds) will give you both the invoice price and average price paid (with options) for any car. If you go into the dealer with this information as a *starting* point in the negotiations, you can generally get a good deal on a car.

That being said, here's the good news. The Rondo is a great car, and a great value. Even if you feel you paid more than you should have, you still paid a lot less than you would have for a comparably equipped Honda or Toyota.

I've had my Rondo for about a year, and love it. I'm sure that a year from now you'll have forgotten about your troubles with the dealer and will just be enjoying the car.

Ahhhh, a car dealer...indeed...oh well Thanks for the positive note on it all, thrilled to hear from someone who has had theirs for a while, I am absolutely loving my new little rig, I feel like I have such a sports car ( my last "new" rig was a 1990 Suburban...which I love and is a complete tank but well...it's a tank!)
The dealer has ordered me all weather floor mats and a cargo tray and even offered to have my big mutts groomed to help on upkeep, though I think he was kidding on that Ah well live and learn folks...and first read up!!!
Must say this is a fantastic resource, though prices are tricky to gauge up here (Alaska) may go out of state next time...but for the next 100,000 it'll be my little zippy Rondo...which by the way my girlfriend has dubbed with the "Band-aid" interior....no offense to those out there who like the beige...but if you've seen it you know what I mean Thanks again!!!

I agree with bmorse, I've had my Rondo for nearly 8 months now and over 10,000km and enjoy it very much. My daughter calls it "The Limo" due to its large wide opening back doors and lots of leg room. We have the gray interior.
We enjoy the high seating and great visibility as well as the cargo capacity and have hauled quite a few things in that area and our Golden Retriever enjoys the space when we put the second row seats down.

I made a fair deal with the dealer at the time and was pleased with the transaction and rate the dealer very high at this point. I've had two warranty claims, 1. one of the strands in the heated rear window wasn't working. 2. there was a stress crack on the windshield and was replaced. Both were done to my complete satisfaction and an excellent job in both cases.

For our Canadian winters I can't speak more highly of the heated seats, heated exterior mirrors and windshield de-icer which are all standard on my EX model.

got the car you wanted anyway by vanner

Couldn't agree more with these other veteran owners. We got what we consider to be a great deal on our '07 LX I-4, and maybe we could have actually done better, I don't know. I think we had gone as low as the dealer intended since he knew the car would sell to the next customer anyway. We had, for him, a delicious trade in an '05 Sedona he wanted badly, I know that.

Big point is, we got a very, VERY nice car with the Rondo and we are absolutely delighted even after 5,000 miles, with one long trip. One tiny warranty call with a disconnected harness to the back passenger door window motor, fixed correctly in 15 minutes and not even at the dealer from whom we bought it.

The Rondo is, for us, and obviously thousands of others, a great car and a great buy. Alaska is a "limited competition pool" for dealers and I have friends who live there or were there for a while who mentioned that bargains are hard to drive just because of the reduced competition. You may well have done most of what could do. Most important conclusion is you got the car(s) you wanted.

Our interior is...beige...cloth! All there was in the model and trim we wanted. Ours is an LX and this cloth seems to resist water and dirt pretty well in comparision to some of the stories of the "deluxe" cloth. But it "dinges" over time.

Stay connected - let us know how ownership goes and what comes up. Good people here with much to teach and much to learn. Congrats on your Rondo! (We're thinking Rio Cinquo or Spec 5 for our daughter soon!)

Ha ha you made me laugh with your sign off...our Rondos are twins, I too have the volcanic red with that exact interior!!! I figured it'll get dingy, the dealer says that the "protection" stuff they are putting on it will really help...hmmm we'll see about that, my life can put any interior to the test, floral business, two big dogs and kiddos!!! Come to think of it is burlap an option?!?!?! Or maybe blue tarp?

But seriously thanks a million for all the positive feedback...I feel so much better....and driving around in my zippy new car sure helps too! Though it feels odd to call it a "car" they are SOOO roomy inside, and we have had a blazer and a suburban so I do not use that word lightly

I did absolutely get the car I wanted, perfect for camping and my floral business without being a dreaded mini-van, no offense to the mini owners, but hey I am 25, it's gotta have a bit of the cool factor! I'm not sure if we have deluxe cloth or regular, probably standard, we have the LX model, I did like the options of the EX, but out of our price/finance range and they didn't have any at the time, ah well. As far as being in AK, yes there is MUCH limited options, which is odd, I mean we're more urban than my husbands family in PA, but there is this perception that we are in the middle of nowhere...and they know it..I think next time we'll road trip it down south! Or maybe Canada...been too long since we took that beautiful drive.

Also, I know this isn't the spec 5 thread, but since you said you were considering it for your daughter thought I'd mention that my hubby is LOVING his, just filled it up at 500 miles(he commutes about 100 miles roundtrip everyday) about 35mpg right out of the gate...after 15mpg on our Blazer we were wondering is the gas gage was maybe broken

On another side note, on the "clicker" auto lock thing on the keys, the button for the rear hatch, I thought mine was broken, then they said it just wasn't programmed, now they say that it just unlocks the back hatch, doesn't actually open it...which seemed a little odd to me since my owners manual says it opens it. What does this "mystery button" do for everyone else?

Thanks again...great resource...more info from owners than ANY other resource out there...including the manual!!!

regarding your remote keyless entry, this is what the owners manual states:

Tailgate unlock (3)
The tailgate is unlocked if the button is
pressed for more than 0.5 second.
The hazard warning lights will blink twice
to indicate that the tailgate is unlocked.
After depressing this button, the tailgate
will be locked automatically unless you
open the tailgate within 30 seconds.
Also, once the tailgate is opened and
then closed, the tailgate will be locked
automatically.

The tailgate does not move, just unlocks maybe you pressed it too quick, if it appears not too open, hold the button down a little longer, also it will re lock if you don't open it within 30 seconds.
I have downloaded the manual in pdf form so I don't have to bother with my copy in the glove compartment, makes it a lot handier and also I can do a search which makes finding the information I require a lot easier.
