Replying to: KarenS (Jul 21, 2008 5:03 pm) from what I read hear, Hummer owners stand by their decision like loyal supporters of George Bush. sorry if the analogy offends anyone.

Maybe Edmunds already has the topic running. Caught up at insideautomotive a few days back and got the impression that a bear may want Hummer and that Cerberus needs cash from a Jeep sale. If internal combustion is dead, maybe a pow-wow is in order but bigger than smersh. Maybe the old Big Three should have one. Sedan forums malibu talk about camry, accord, malibu, with some tosses for taurus or altima or another also ran. Ford and Chevrolet have unique strengths and weaknesses while the only Cerberus products ever considered were a cummins diesel engine, and the jeep. Put the good points of all three together and build a few good products without plastic window regulators and plastic truck hubs.

Goofed off today and one stop was at the Hummer dealer. Seems gm is paying you to buy the last of the '08's. Had another thought recently but just came from insideautomotive with the bad news. Thought the financing guys would've had some creative ideas. GM had a costly learning lesson when Olds was killed, no buyers for Hummer, now selling Hummer again. Had a crazy thought that Hummer should be sold to us, owners and other interested parties-complete or partial. Management, not only at the general, seems to be incompetent these days (good old boy network, frat brothers, hand shake societies, who knows). Then there is the union is no good, lazy workers, etc. No it is not us it is them. Now they want billions to stay alive. Why? The middle class has been destroyed and those that haven't may soon be. Let them fail. Buy Chinese or Vietnamese or Brazilian vehicles next year. have the malibu and the h3. You have to burn up what you didn't lease. |

Two other hummer forums have posts which pretty much say it all. The announcement to sell hummer. The management goofs. Buy a give away '08 H3 or wait for the best ever H3, the '09. Don't they always walk away after they get a product right. Went back to look at wrangler a few more times(cerberus to sell off jeep?). Looked at an H3 '08 with those prices but really holding out for a loaded '09. Now wishy-washy gm sell the line, no takers, sell the line - wonder why we are sitting back. One post recently, if no hummer then back to jeep, if no jeep back to toyota. Like the full time 4wd for better_half - no lever to pull. Would liked to have had a higher geared commuter h3 with 3.55 gears and lockers (wanglers, I believe have 3.21, 3.73, and of course the 4.10). Then have the real rock crawler version. Like sfa but didn't like mag article about unlimited's highway wander (alignment problem only?). A little better highway performance with the ability to get out of trouble. Plus a tired old back doesn't have to crawl down into the sedan/wagon (as a new H3 owner in canada posted). Not to use a scare tactic, but the roads are getting worse-where did we spend our treasury, billions to oil companies but not a dime more in road taxes to keep our highways from turning into toll roads (who's getting that money), and of course the drunks on the highway. Again, a couple just died in the metroplex when they were hit by a serial drunk driver in a tahoe? (he survived). |

Can't believe I got the answer to the road taxes and more. The road tax idea was from listening to Ed Wallace's radio show (with great Backsides of History segments) some time back. And my answer is in this Sunday's Ed Wallace's column in the Fort Worth Star Telegram which is linked to at insideautomotive.com "Privatizing What the Public Paid For" |
