Yesterday, after getting into my 3 month old Enclave, I shut the door and then heard a loud bang!!. The rear window shattered and exploded outwardly. I suspect that the glass had a manufacturing flaw and because the car is so well sealed, closing the door created a high pressure within the car which caused the break. GM was not very cooperative, but my dealer, Fitzgerald Buick in Rockville, MD is taking care of it under "goodwill". Anyone else had tghis experiance?

Replying to: donsar (May 30, 2008 8:50 am) Closing the door will not normally create air pressure sufficient to cause any problems with the glass unless you close the door at hypersonic speeds in which case you have other more serious problems. When you close the door any pressure imbalance is promptly relieved at the speed of sound. GM did, however, issue a recall recently relating to exploding windows in the Pontiac Vibe. Apparently, the cause is related to bolts that come loose. One wonders whether it's related to what you experienced. Has anyone else seen this? tidester, host SUVs and Smart Shopper |
