Full Test: 2009 Mazda 6 s Grand Touring - Bottom Line: Manages to keep some of the zoom-zoom athleticism despite pandering to the Accord/Camry market.(more)

Hey All: I currently drive a '97 626 - and as it gets older the problems get greater so im looking to upgrade in the coming year. Before now - I ruled out purchasing another Mazda given the known history of transmission (which i have experienced on my current model) and other mechanical problems - but I truly like the the 2009 Mazda6! My ideal 2009 Mazda6 would be: i4 Engine - Grand Touring Onyx Black -or- Dark Cherry Mica Beige Interior Moonroof/Bose Package

As far as I know, the transmission problems were mainly limited to that generation of 626 models, so it shouldn't be a problem with any Mazda since the zoom-zoom campaign. My ideal Mazda 6 is pretty much the same as yours, except that I'm still detating whether to go for the V6 or the I4.....

C) MPG - significantly reduced on the V6 model - and with the current price of gas and its steady uprising trend it adds additional expense on the cost of the vehicle and daily running. Being a college student near graduation I am looking for a car that blends luxury and sport nicely without appearing to "old" for my generation - I think they have accomplished this with the redesign - NOT TO MENTION some of the tech features are going to be great - (pushbutton start - blind spot monitoring - etc)

Virtually identical figures, and a significantly larger engine. A good thing. Yes, I know EPA figures are just an estimate, but it's a beginning point for comparing. |

Replying to: rrcoleman (Jun 04, 2008 11:41 am) On a more personal note... I graduated college in 2003 and purchased my first brand new vehicle the same year. Although everything turned out OK, I kind of wish I hadn't have purchased that brand new car at that time - it would have made a lot of things easier in the next few years such as buying a house, etc. This may not be the proper place to say this, but if you want a V6, why not save a TON and pick up a slightly used model of the current generation mazda6? Or, if you have to have new, get one of the last remaining 2008's and still save - shoot for less than invoice price, and get the zero percent financing. You never know what the first few years out of college may bring (buying a house, marriage, kids, etc) and you might appreciate not having spent that $20k+ first thing... Just some friendly advice, do with it what you will!

Replying to: benderofbows (Jun 11, 2008 10:49 am) You should shoot for a lot less than invoice. New 2008s are going for more than $5000 under MSRP(which is something like $3500 under invoice) in many areas of the country. They have been a good deal for a couple of years and now with the new model on the horizon they are a very good deal. There's a $2750 rebate which takes it well below invoice to start with.
