How Does the Altima Hybrid Perform in the Snow?? by jima5

I am considering purchasing an Altima Hybrid '08 but because I live the the No. East I am curious to know how they handle in the snow and whether the hybrid/engine "thing" runs noticeably differently when it's 5 degrees outside, i.e., is it rough, noisey, etc.

I live in the snow belt of the Great Lakes. The car handles fanstastic. However, I did replace the regular tires with Nokian RTS Winter and they are fantastic. Almost like 4 wheel drives going up hill from a standing start. I would suggest using winter tires although many have reported just using the OEM tires. If you live in a heavy snow area get the winter tires.

The car in low temperatures, runs well. Just like any other car, kit takes longer to get to operating temps. Doesn't run rough if that is what you are asking. Winter also takes more time to go into EV mode and MPG does drop like any other car. Never a problem in starting and I keep mine outside.

Thanks for the info... very helpful. I'll make sure the dealer sends you a commission

I would agree with emgr. I live in Boston and the car can hold it's on in the snow. It did take me 3 minutes to rock out of about 3-4 inches of loose snow during that big storm last december on the stock tires

my winter fuel economy was a little bit disappointing though, I think I averaged about 31 MPG, but it evens out with the summer where I get around 37 MPG

Two feet of snow in a week here in coastal Maine! Any suggestions for snow tires for my 08 Altima Hybrid with 6800 miles??

Also, can anyone tell me why it takes so long for ev mode to kick in at startup? I would think that that's when it would be particularly helpful/cost-effective....

Thanks for any info.

the engine still needs to warm up so it'll take longer in the winter. There's plenty of good snow tires out there, you live in Maine, you should know better than me in Mass, just make sure you keep your tpms sensors during the changeover
