I haven't figured out how to remove the knob from the shift lever (fits step). But even with a knob on, I was able to lift the plastic cover enough to be able to fish out the screwdriver.

Thanks!

Did you remove the radio bezel? How difficult was that.

Actually, it was very easy. I posted my experience in "Hyundai Veracruz Audio Video DVD MP3 iPod AUX" thread. I found on one forum the image showing where the clips are located (though, it is easy to feel them too). The link is in that thread.

I used thin disposable plastic knifes to keep main clips disengaged. There's one clip on top and two on the side (times two, since there are two panels). If you slid the plastic knife (or some similar tool) between the panel and dashboard, and then slide it, you'll feel a small hole where the clip is (about inch wide). Then just wiggle the knife until it slips all the way in and leave it in place (to hold clip disengaged). Repeat for remaining clips.

After that, I pried off the covers using big flat screwdriver. Be gentle since there are some electrical connectors on the panel. Be careful not to loose any of those plastic knifes (or whatever other tool you used) that were holding clips inside dash cavity. You'll have fun time fishing them out.

Once the covers are off, you have access to 10 screws (5 on each side) that hold radio in place. Unscrew them and the radio comes out (you need to disconnect bunch of electrical connectors too).

You'll need to drill 3/4" hole in the back of that small storage compartment. I used 3/4" flat drill bit for wood (like this one). Worked nicely on plastic.

When drilling holes for screws, keep in mind that image in instructions is not to scale (regardless of what instructions say). The image is actually a bit smaller. If you cut it out and place it on top of storage compartment, you'll see it for yourself too. Be careful not to damage connectors inside auxiliary jack module when drilling. You'll need to drill a bit wider than on the image. I'd strongly suggest to measure few times before you drill.

If you drop any of the tools (or anything else) into the cavity (like I did) your best bet would be to remove the plastic cover that's around the shifter. It's very easy to pry off. Just insert screwdriver between the panel and plastic on each side and pry it off. To remove it completely, you'd need to remove the knob from the shifter, which I haven't figured out how to do without damaging it. Anyhow, even with the knob on, I was able to lift that plastic enough to fish out my stuff. There's a link in this thread to instructions for disassembling entire center console too.

All in all, it shouldn't take more than an hour to install.

Do you happen to have any pics of what the clips look like, or exactly how you pry the vent off? I've tried for over an hour using your suggestions, along w/ others, and the vent has never moved a hair.

I know I've found where the clips should be, it's jut getting the leverage to pop it out. Almost to the point of taking it to the dealership.

Thanks,

James

The shift knob will come off by pulling up on it. It is held in place by a spring loaded ball. It takes some effort, but it will come off.
