I work for a Chevy/Toyota dealer and have been asking our GM/Owner about the 2010 Prius. They came back from the national Toyota Convention a month ago and was told that the only changes coming at the launch were solar panels on the roof that would control a fan that will help keep your car cooler while sitting on a hot day. No other significant changes were being made at this time. They were also told that the 2010 model will be out in March or April. They have been taking deposits for a plug-in Prius, and have 10 of those, but no timeline from Toyota when that will be out. The dealership has had their "ear to the ground" on the new model since we live in an area of California that is known for its eco-friendly nature, excuse the pun. We are still selling about 40 Prius' a month, and still have over 30 orders. I can tell you that the major service issues I see on a regular basis is: rodent damage (we have at least 3 cases a week on this issue alone, mice get in and eat the wiring = $1500 repair), tires (expect your originals to last only 12,000 miles), complete battery failure between 95k-125k (the battery pack is only warranted for 100k miles). Also, please realize that the Prius has to be serviced by only certified technicians. At my dealership we have 15 techs, but only 2 are certified hybrid and have 2 more waiting certification. Those two techs have to service all the new incoming cars (pre-delivery inspections) in addition to those who have service appointments. I am waiting for more information for the 2010 model since I will most likely be purchasing one ahead of the waiting lists. Working here really does help me out, since when they go on backorder, there will still be one on the lot for people to look at. I've sold about 1000 hybrids ever since they arrived here in 2000. NONE - ZERO - of these have had to have the batteries fail needing a replacement. I own one...93000+ miles and counting. Now where to begin with your noobie/trollie misinformation... Warranties: You state that you live in CA and the warranty is 100,000 miles. That's false. In CA and several other states it's 10 yrs or 150,000 miles !! Rodent damage...OK that must be a local issue. Tires: This is false in the extreme. The Goodyear Integrity's are the middle of the road ones used on Corolla, Civic and Prius. They are warranted for 40000 miles. They are mediocre but passable for OEMs for 40000 mi. Mine lasted exactly 50,000 mi. Oil/filter changes, air filters and tire rotations can be done by any tech. Nothing else is needed from zero to 100.000 miles. THEN the hybrid Master Tech should become involved in doing the PSD fluid drain/replace. Please learn more before spreading gross misinformation. Come back in two years when you've done more studying. Your info 3rd hand is mostly incorrect on the new Gen3 also. Try doing some internet research on PriusChat for example. Strangely, the squirrels seem to have a liking to primarily large SUVs.

If gas doesn't go up soon, (I paid $1.59 for reg. this morning here in Indiana) they will become very expensive boat anchors. Now I see that Toyota is not going through with plans to build them in Mississippi. I guess they just couldn't stand to see those dollars stay in America. The problem I see here is lack of foresight by Toyota. Their high paid managers should have known that oil and gas prices were going to crash. What a bunch of morons. They should all be fired. There is still a waiting list here in my part of New England! MSRP, no discounts and a waiting list, so they can't be piling up too high yet. Next year will be different, the economy will probably hit bottom and car sales will drop big time and then the cars will be back to invoice just to get them to move. Once you have one you become a pleasantly obcessive devotee. The Fit is by all means a great car. I've owned several Hondas going all the way back to the delightfull Honda 600 Coupe 1970. 2 cyl. air-cooled skateboard with 10" wheels. She got 42 mpgs back when gas was well under a buck if I remember right.
