Hi I would like to provide a correction to the article written by Mike Lysaght reporting on the crash of the Challenger during the Road America stop of the One Lap of America competition. The car was driven by Erich Heuschele, Dodge Vehicle Dynamics Supervisor. Mr. Lysaght writes the following about Mr. Heuschele: "But Heuschele is no hard-bitten racer, just a movie fan who found out the hard way that it all looks much easier on the big screen than it really is in life." This statement is completely incorrect. Mr. Heuschele has been an SCCA club racing driver for many years, usually driving a Dodge Neon in Showroom Stock C, to very good results including a 2nd place finish in the 2002 National Championship Runoffs. I would request that Mr. Lysaght to please correct the statements in his article because I feel that it negatively reflects on Mr. Heuschele's driving abilities and suggests that he was "in over his head" and "ran out of talent" to borrow a phrase from racing. In fact, I would suggest that Mr. Lysaght start to follow club racing a bit to realize that there are quite a good number of automotive industry employees who participate in club racing. The most prominent is John Heinricy, director of GM's Performance Division. I would also suggest the editors at Edmunds, a site that I usually respect for their knowledge of automotive issues, to please encourage their writers and contributors to please do a little more background research before making such allegations about a person.
