If that many. I looked at a couple yesterday - both were SELs with AWD and priced just under 40 grand. Nice as they seemed to be, THAT's alot of money for a family hauler with no guarantee of reliability or good resale value.

No, IMHO, Ford has again missed the boat by overpricing its product.

That's what Chrysler did with the Pacifica - and it never recovered. Even after they brought out cheaper ones later - the bloom was off the rose, and it was actually a very nice car.

I have had my Flex for about six weeks now and have 1000 fun filled miles on it. My current gas mileage is 20.6 in mixed driving.

CR rated the Flex ahead of redesigned Honda Pilot by samnoe

Yes, it's true. Consumer Reports says this month, that the Flex is rated better than the new redesigned Honda Pilot. In acceleration, fit and finish, and more. They do complain about the Flex' complicated Center stack with many look alike buttons (when will you finally listen, Ford?), but they complain the same on the Pilot.

Way to go, Ford. Keep it up!

The Flex is different but not great looking by any means. I have only seen one on the highway in some time so I know that they cannot be selling well. In Edmunds car test the flex got less then advertised fuel mil. They consider the Transverse a better buy. Who in his/her right mind will pay 40 grand for this!!! Ford priced it to fail.
MY 4x4 excursion got 15 on the highway.

is polarizIng - you either really like it, or you don't. I don't. I am also afraid it's priced too high, but probably is worth it. If you like it. One thing seems apparent though - it's not a runaway hit...

It's the wrong car for the wrong time. If Ford would have produced a small 3 row vehicle similar to the Kia Rondo or Mazda5 and was able to get it to average 30mpg and sell it for under $20 then I think they'd have a hit.

Don't be so sure. It's still very early in the game yet. With gas prices plumeting, and the Eco-boost on it's way.. this vehicle could really take-off next year. Just need to get the credit markets working again so people won't be so scared to spend money.

I agree that the Flex is the wrong car at the wrong time but the idea of a twenty-thousand dollar three-row vehicle that get thirty miles per gallon is preposterous.

To get that mileage the engine wouldn't have close to enough power to move a six passenger vehicle. I would guess a vehicle of that ilk would strain to pull off a 20 second zero to sixty mph time. Perhaps some kind of diesel hybrid technology might do that mileage, but if Ford actually had the corporate conjones to produce that vehicle Americans would hold their nose and run in the other direction. And the Mazda 5 doesn't come anywhere close to that mileage, it is more like 20 mpg. The Honda Fit barely gets that mileage and it is two rows, tiny and light. Why don't you request a perpetual motion machine from Ford because that is just as likely as the "If" that you have proposed.

Where do these Edmund's chat room " experts " come from, better check with the engineering department next time, nybanker.
