Fit vs. Element by roszelj

Hey everybody, I've owned a Honda Element for almost a year now and it has been pretty great overall. However, I'm looking at the Fit now just because I'd love to increase my gas mileage and the money it takes to fill up. I have two dogs, which is the main thing I haul. Does anyone know how driving the Fit, gas mileage, etc. compares with the Element. Any info would help! Thanks.

Hello. I have a 2007 Honda Element EX 4WD. I have had my Element for over a year now too. I was considering the Fit before I bought my Element, I'm very happy with my decision. I would have liked the MPG's of the Fit (27city / 30 combined / 34 highway), rather than the Element's (19city/ 21combined/ 24highway) I normally get 25MPG, but that is great for a 3661lb 4WD SUV. If you live in the city than yes the Fit may be better for you. But if you would rather have the safety, size and 4WD than I would stick with the Element. The Fit is safe, but the Element is safer.

I know this post is old, but I wanted to see the replies. I have had my honda fit for 2 years now, and still love it as much as when I got it new. We are currently looking for an element EX model as well. One big reason is, we have very active children, plus we are going to be getting a (very large) dog in the spring. As for having a dog in my Fit.. no way. We did have a (very large) dog up until last year (150 lbs), and one of our biggest reasons for wanting an element is specifically that. Once the hair gets into the carpet and upholstery, it will never come out. Since the Element has the all-weather interior, it will be much easier to clean out of hair, slobber, etc, lol. One of my only gripes with the Fit (and many other people as well) is the upholstery, or rather what they pass off as 'carpet'. It is not really carpet, it is more like that odd stuff they cover stereo boxes with. It is a pain to keep clean, so I have floor mats and towels all over my floor to try to avoid any dirt. If you could find covers for the floors and seats, though, the Fit would not be a problem to transport a dog. You can lay down the rear seats and have a ton of cargo space. If you have a large dog, you can put the seats up in the 'tall' mode and your dog would have space if they like to stand up as well. I am interested to hear what your ultimate decision was, if you have already gotten another vehicle.
