I have a 1998 Chevy Venture with approximately 77,000 miles on it, the majority from city driving. I noticed over the last month that the vehicle has been running rough. My husband changed the oil, replaced the PCV valve, and it ran better (we have replaced the PCV valve several times over the last few years). I drove it 900 miles (long road trip) and then it overheated. The mechanic stated that both head gaskets are bad, but does not know the root of the problem. Since the vehicle went from hot to cold in 15 minutes (per gauge), I think that the head gasket were blown which caused the overheating. I have fortunately not had any mechanical failure prior to this incident (bought the vehicle new), however, I feel this may be the beginning of many repairs. My question is whether this engine can recover successfully after repairs or if I should consider getting another vehicle to prevent ongoing and costly repairs? I am unfamiliar with the history of this vehicle and its engine. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Larissa |
