Okay, here is a question my friend asked me. Her ’04 Prius is approaching 130K miles, and she knows her batteries don’t have too much of a life left (150K or so). She asked me if its possible “to somehow disable the electric drive system,” thus, making the car “gasoline only.” I guess she doesn’t want to spend the 3K or so on new battery pack. Is such a thing possible? Can one convert a Prius to run on gasoline only, and basically “disable” the electric-battery drive portion? At the same time, what if Toyota made a GASOLINE-ONLY Prius? What kind of mileage would it get? Maybe better than a Yaris, but not as much as the regular Prius? Think about it: It's already "aerodynamic" ready, and that would lower the price greatly if it was gasoline only.
