I'm in Florida-hot and humid. Winter rarely below 40 degrees.

I find on the first "cold" start, if I let the engine warm up for 30 seconds, the revs calm down and the transition into reverse is smooth.

hey i am kinda new to this forum thing, as well as being a new Rabbit owner. 2 serious questions i have is when i start the car in the morning it idles high for a good minute to minute and a half before lowering down to normal RPM, is that normal for an '08 5- spd 2dr rabbit wit 4000miles on it? 2nd question is at about 2000 miles on it the darn airbag light lit up....what could that be? please answer me. thanks.

The high idle when starting the car "cold" is common to all 2008 Rabbits. I used to practically get a hernia putting it in reverse from the damn "Jerk." Someone told me to just wait 30 seconds before putting it in reverse. It worked. The revs calm down quite a bit after half a minute. Sometimes I hate waiting, but what are you going to do?

It should not take over 45 seconds for the revs to calm down. If it does, have the service dept. check it out. This would most likely mean leaving it overnight, so the service person can start the car "cold".

The airbag light coming on is not common. Take it to the dealer's service dept. It should be fixed for no charge under the warranty.

6 weeks new 2008 Rabbit 2.5 5M - about 1,500 miles on car - also high revs at start. I let it idle for 10-15 secs, and either throttle blip, or, 1st clutch engagement (1 or R), idle returns to normal range 6.5k to 7.5k.

Not experienced the airbag light, or read any posts related to airbag light coming on at all at low mileage.

I'm with hpowders - take it back to the dealer and ask for a loaner while they (hopefully) work the problem. Perhaps they will be more motivated to research the cause if they are incurring loaner expense...

I'm stuck!! Anyone here stuck between the Vw Jetta and Vw Rabbit or chose between the two? I would really like to know any details.

Pros
Hatchback : Mom just got a german shepphard (Rambo) but theres no way he'll fit into her Z4... Plus I'm a pre-college student also.

Rear wiper: In So. Fl, the often humid mornings are my enemy in cars without this(Maybe because my car has a weak defroster) Its cool that if the window wipers on up front and u put it in reverse, the rear wiper comes on

Cons:
No leather/leatherette compared to jetta. Very different because I rarely ride in vehicles without leather

Hard to find with sunroof and alloys (Pre-"loved")

Boring Colors: Black Sliver White Grey Green-Grey Red

2dr's lack of features compared to 4door

Hey can any one comment on the Ac? My car has a really weak A.C. In fact, weak defroster, weak A.C., weak power windows, thin paint, weak power antenna (keeps coming off track) and weak MPG(16/22). Everything keeps breaking at once!! I guess honda quality doesn't last long after 10years ...
