Replying to: rotary (Jul 15, 2008 6:05 pm) - 90 miles (immediately following delivery and re-learning manual shifting after 16 years) 90% city, 10% hwy: 4.8 gals; 18.4 mpg - 244 mls, 50-50 city/hwy, 9.9 gals; 24.6 mpg - 259 mls, 30-70 city/hwy, 9.8 gals; 26.3 mpg (took trip in mountains - family in car, 70/80 mph - hot - using A/C) - 281 mls, 70-30 city/hwy, 10.9 gals; 25.7 mpg (hot - using A/C, but re-circ air and turning A/C on/off every few mins - gradual accelerations, shifting conservatively 1-3-5 when practical, coasting to stop lights at lower speeds, etc.). On-board computer average mpg calculations appear to be accurate (off by few tenths) when compared at fill-up time with receipt and calculator. Trying hard to monitor my driving habits using RPM's, real-time mpg / average mpg readout from on-board computer - mpg appears to be improving slightly over time. Can't tell if it's refining my driving skills/habits, or, the car going through its break-in period which accounts for apparent improvement. Will post again in few weeks with an update. |

You can compare multiple drivers of the same vehicle (2008 Rabbit drivers in CA, NY, NM, VA), or compare fuel data with other vehicles (2008 Rabbit v. 2008 Astra). FWIW - I'm not plugging the site - using it to record data in effort to retire my old mileage logbook. |

Several decent Audi wheels are easy to fit onto Rabbit with proper bolt pattern.....Good Web sources include wheelsandcaps.com, Lakeshore Wheels, etc. You can pay approx $450 for good set from one of these sources, plus use Tire America as very good tire source who can recommend correct tires/aspect ratios so speedometer, odometer show true readings....good luck! |

Replying to: hpowders (Jul 19, 2008 6:34 am) 2.5L in my '08 rabbit sometimes idles a bit higher on start-up (11k rpm); but doesn't seem to be an issue. So far, if I let it idle for 10-15 secs, or tap gas / engage clutch, then idle set point adjusts to its normal range (6.5k-7.5k). Ambient overnight temps now in 70's / daytime 90's; rh 60%-99% here in VA. Given your post about high idle at start-up during summer months, I'm wondering how quickly the engine will warm up in colder weather; how long will ECM dictate higher idle speed when temp starts approaching freezing and below?

hey i am kinda new to this forum thing, as well as being a new Rabbit owner. 2 serious questions i have is when i start the car in the morning it idles high for a good minute to minute and a half before lowering down to normal RPM, is that normal for an '08 5- spd 2dr rabbit wit 4000miles on it? 2nd question is at about 2000 miles on it the darn airbag light lit up....what could that be? please answer me. thanks.

Replying to: grkkid115 (Jul 29, 2008 4:21 pm) It should not take over 45 seconds for the revs to calm down. If it does, have the service dept. check it out. This would most likely mean leaving it overnight, so the service person can start the car "cold". The airbag light coming on is not common. Take it to the dealer's service dept. It should be fixed for no charge under the warranty. |

I'm with hpowders - take it back to the dealer and ask for a loaner while they (hopefully) work the problem. Perhaps they will be more motivated to research the cause if they are incurring loaner expense... |

I'm stuck!! Anyone here stuck between the Vw Jetta and Vw Rabbit or chose between the two? I would really like to know any details. Pros Hatchback : Mom just got a german shepphard (Rambo) but theres no way he'll fit into her Z4... Plus I'm a pre-college student also. Rear wiper: In So. Fl, the often humid mornings are my enemy in cars without this(Maybe because my car has a weak defroster) Its cool that if the window wipers on up front and u put it in reverse, the rear wiper comes on Cons: No leather/leatherette compared to jetta. Very different because I rarely ride in vehicles without leather Hard to find with sunroof and alloys (Pre-"loved") Boring Colors: Black Sliver White Grey Green-Grey Red 2dr's lack of features compared to 4door Hey can any one comment on the Ac? My car has a really weak A.C. In fact, weak defroster, weak A.C., weak power windows, thin paint, weak power antenna (keeps coming off track) and weak MPG(16/22). Everything keeps breaking at once!! I guess honda quality doesn't last long after 10years -Cj |
