Hi everyone. I tried searching this topic before adding a new post, but I couldn't find my answer. I apologize for my limited knowledge, but I am just beginning to shop for a hybrid suv (if it fits my needs) and I need to know if it will be possible to tow my ultralight travel trailer. From what I have researched so far, I think a hybrid is out of the question for this reason. When you are calculating towing capacity, do you use the gross weight, the hitch weight or the axle weight? Here are the specs of my travel trailer: Axle Weight 3690 Dry Weight 4283 GVWR 6593

Replying to: tmartin4253 (Apr 05, 2008 5:15 am) There are NO hybrids rated to tow your trailer. The rating by the manufacturer is the gross weight of the trailer or Maximum weight you should tow. The closest will be the GM Yukon hybrid that is rated 6000 lbs. The Offerings from Toyota are maxed at 3500 lbs.For a trailer that size you also are safer with a longer wheel base. If any MFG offers a 1/2 ton diesel PU truck, that would be your best mileage vehicle. A 3/4 ton diesel PU should get you 15 MPG on the highway. That would be about the best you can hope for with the limited offerings in the US. Good luck in your shopping. |
