I have a 2001 Dakota Quad cab, 3.9L auto, 3.55 axle ratio which according to books can tow 4500 lbs. I want to buy a travel trailer an coincidentally my transmission broke last week and is being rebuilt as we speak. My question is, can I change the 3.55 axle ratio to say a 3.92 to get up to 4900 lbs of tow capability. I'm already adding a transmision cooler and thought if only a small cost increase I could beef up transmission. Any thoughts? Thanks.
