Isn't the performance upgrades (which are awesome!)

Its whether or not they used this opportunity to improve the quality of the car. Have they been able to fix the problems with the earlier models?

See, they made it more exiting to lure people to dealerships. Now if people give it a second chance, GM is going to have to improve quality or else the Cobalt may suffer the cavalier's fate

Also, let me just add that I don't understand why some mags don't like the looks of this car, especially with those big wheels it looks nice to me.

i also noticed that edmunds acheived 27 mpg....thats pretty intense when you realize your doing 0-60 in 5.8...

if you are a reader of consumer reports, take a look at the reliability of the cobalt over the recent years, its getting better, hopefully this one is no exception

Back in the days when buying the fastest car for the least amount of money appealed to me I would have bought the Cobalt SS.

It is the best performance value since the original Neon SRT4.

The complaints about the appearance to me are the next best advantage after the performance and the price. The car is a SLEEPER.

Cars like the EVO or STI look like they are speeding when they are standing still. You can probably speed past a trooper and they wouldn't even think it was you!

I wouldn't get the wing and I would probably consider removing all of the external SS stuff.

If you wait till the end of the year you can probably get it way below invoice too. This would probably help to offset the depreciation; and if you hold on to it long enough it may even become a collectors item.

With all the money you save from not having to buy a bunch of go fast stuff you can spice up the interior with things like custom leather seats, or a good aftermarket audio system with DVD/NAV and bluetooth.

Too alleviate reliability fears I would just get GM's extended warranty.

I wouldn't car about it being a Chevy "Cavalier/Cobalt". I would just be laughing all the way to the bank and smiling as I blew past the competitors in their slower more expensive cars that are more likely to be stolen.

I'm closer to 50 than 30 and married but still love the Cobalt. From what I've read 2009 will be the last year for the car and GM will give it all it can to have it go out in style, Dealer says the SS will have dual exhaust among other little upgrades.. The best deals always can be had from thanksgiving through the first of the year when they have there Red Tag Sale. Read Tag is usually good for 2,000 off plus most dealers will give you invoice. That would get you a loaded SS for under 20,000, Not Bad.

2009 maybe the last year of this body style/name, but it will be replaced.

I love this car! Not only is it faster than a Mazdaspeed 3, but look at the trap speeds... they're comparable to a BMW Z4 M Coupe! This car without the wing would be such a sleeper. On top of that the Nurburgring lap times makes it as fast as an e46 M3, Z4 M Coupe, and an R32 GT-R. At the same time, it is faster than an STI, Porsche Cayman S, Audi S5, EVO VI, EVO VII, Jaguar XKR, BMW 335i coupe, Nissan 350Z, 993 Porsche 911, Acura NSX, Honda S2000, Lotus Exige, C5 Corvette, Porsche Boxster S... just amazing! Best car to come out for a long time...

I think you can have the spoiler wing deleted if you order it. The performance is quite impressive as you mentioned.

If I were still 21 this would probably be the car but now the regular Cobalt is more to my driving style.

I myself on a mazdaspeed 3, so I might be alittle baised in this reply. Sure the new cobalt might be quick, by about a 1/10th. Braking the mazda wins, handling maybe alittle nudge to the mazda or about even. Basically when it comes down to it, its all going to be driver. Im sure once mods start hitting the stores, then it will become a battle of which car makes greater gains. Personally for me, I wanted a good daily, with plenty of room, and a nice interior. The mazda has that, the cobalt isnt a bad car, its just well the same model as before with a turbo. As for the lap times on the ring, it was done with no traffic, and a seasoned driver, where as the mazdas ring time was done with a amaetur driver, and traffic. Again its all going to be driver skill. Espically with a price tag equal to the mazda, your paying for slightly faster older cobalt.
