I am starting this discussion to hear the latest from new buyers of the Speed3, especially those built in January '08 and later with the new body colors and interior upgrades. Let's hear about your buying experience, how long it took to get your car, how you like the new alcantara seats and piano black interior trim, white and gray colors and prices paid. I will be buying soon. I was just offered $300 below invoice for an in-stock purchase by March 31.

I guess that is a desperate dealer. We have gotten full MSRP for every Mazdaspeed3 we have had. If I were you, I would take that deal before that dealer wakes up and realize how stupid they are being.

I agree; my local dealer-Oxmoor Mazda in Louisville KY-has an ADM sticker on all their MS3s and won't let you drive one without a signed buyer's order. I wound up buying my MS3 from Kings Mazda in Cincinnati for MSRP, but they didn't charge me for trucking in the car I wanted from Cleveland, and I get free 5K mile oil changes for as long as I own the car. Best of all, the Kings sales and service staff are first-rate and have always treated me with respect.

Did you get a 2008.5 i.e., manufactured after Jan. 08 with the interior upgrades? I am looking for feedback on the quality of the upgrades and whether it is worth ordering from the factory.

Sorry, forgot to mention that mine is an '07. As for the '08.5 interior upgrades, the only thing I've seen that I don't like is the piano black trim. It looks like a cheap aftermarket kit and it shows every fingerprint and speck of dirt. To each his own, however...

It probably depends on how healthy your particular local market is. It sounds like you work for a dealer, where?

What is a "reasonable" doc fee for a dealer. I see it as pure profit for the dealer.

I don't think I really have much to stand on when I say what I think is fair for a doc fee, since the company I work for has one. Ours is $249. I have seen then as high as $499, and as low as $99 in the tri-state area (NY, NJ, CT). I think ours is fair, because most of my competition has much higher doc fees.

I know roadburner disagrees with me, but, I think the 2008.5 upgrades are much nicer. I really like the new cloth interior inserts as well as the piano black accents. I also like the white gauge needles. Also, the 2008.5 upgrade will set you apart from other MS3 owners because they look different, and there will be less of them. Dealers should have them on their lots now. I have two, a white and a metro gray. You should go see for yourself.

BTW, I think April is the last month you can actually order a Mazdaspeed3. As of now, there is no plan to continue the Mazdaspeed3 for 2009. Good luck.

Thank you for your response and your insights. As I have researched many MS3 forums, I have seen many helpful insights from you. Here in Indiana, doc fees typically run around $150, however, we have a positive "market adjustment" on all Mazdas sold here. On the GT I'm looking at, it is $212 and it is on the invoice. Based on the aggressive pricing I'm seeing here, I suspect that Mazda suspends this on occasion for those dealers receiving high customer satisfaction ratings. I'm hearing 90% is a key level. Anyway, I know I've got a good deal going here and I certainly plan to take advantage of it. I'm trying to locate a black 2008.5 for immediate purchase, and I already have a factory order as a back up. While I haven't seen them in person, I am hopefully agreeable with your observations of the improvements made by the mid-year interior upgrade. While you are correct that Mazda typically produces MS models for two years, I wouldn't be surprised if with the success of the MS3, they continue producing it into '09 and perhaps beyond.
BTW, I am assuming the interior upgrades are applied to all colors, not just the new white and grey. Can you confirm that I should expect the same interior on my Black Mica produced after Jan. '08?
