Comparison Test: 2008 BMW M3 Coupe vs. 2008 Audi S5 Coupe - Were we foolish to pair these two high-performance coupes? The test numbers recorded by our previous 2008 Audi S5 were no fluke, as this time around we managed to coax another tenth or two from the car from Ingolstadt, validating our instincts. (more)

Our first full test of the $53,000, all-wheel-drive 2008 Audi S5 was a bit of a revelation. With a 354-horsepower version of Audi's direct-injection 4.2-liter V8 under its hood, the voluptuous Audi S5 ran a 13.3-second quarter-mile at 104 mph, just 0.1 second and 2 mph shy of the 420-hp 2007 Audi RS4 sedan. What's more, the S5's slalom speed is within a couple mph of the harsh-riding RS-spec sedan. "It ran a 13.3? With that kind of speed, who needs a $67,000 RS4?" we asked ourselves. The S5 was designed to beat the 335i, not the M3. Audi failed since the 335i is simpler, lighter, more nimble, better fuel economy, and is $10k cheaper. This is what Audi has in store for the E92 M3 Coupe! http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.tuningnews.net/news/070512a/au- - di-rs5-spy.jpg&imgrefurl=http://autobeattuning.blogspot.com/2007/05/audi-rs5-sco- - op.html&h=287&w=520&sz=50&hl=en&start=3&um=1&tbnid=RZmlqcVz8BLUUM:&tbnh=72&tbnw=- - 131&prev=/images%3Fq%3DAudi%2BRS5%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26rls%3DGGLR,GGLR:2006-26,G- - GLR:en%26sa%3DN Very Exciting! Without a stopwatch, most people would be hard pressed to tell which is the faster car and would often pick the car with the "rougher" ride as being the sportiest. The RS5 will be a monster, but will Audi be able to bring it to the US market at a price that will rival the M3 sub 70K sticker? I sure hope so, but the base price for a M3 and S5 are not that far apart. RS5 will certainly be a more expensive car than the M3. |

| only comparison was that they both have a v8 and... well thats were the comparison ends... the S5 should be compared more to a 135i a 335i or maybe even a g37 | |

The S5 is one of the sexiest cars out there under 100,000. The S5 is part of the new platform for Audi's and it's not nearly as heavy feeling as the older generation Audi's. It's 60/40 biased to the rear wheels, very fluid, amazing shifter and creamy smooth. For an AWD car, it's incredibly fast with "only" 354hp. You're pretty brilliant w/ your 1 sentance blog about Audi. I'll look eleswhere for thoughtful conversation and discussion. |
