What's up? New to this. 2001 Chevro Impala LS. The 3.8 L and all. After driving for a bit, and when I park the car and let it idle, the temp escalates and even sometimes goes up past the middle mark if I let it. But as soon as I start driving again, the temp goes back to normal. I have to shut the car on and off when it gets like that because I'm afraid of it over heating. Can i get a little help? Thanks

1. how far past 1/2 does the gauge go? does it get close to the red or is it nearer the center? most cars go up to about 212 (fahrenheit) before the cooling fan kicks in.
2. check your coolant-is it ok?
3. is your service engine light on?

you may have a sticking thermostat, but you're better off getting a technician to check it out rather than asking website lurkers.

Not near the red. But like one notch over the center. I had the coolant changed a month and a half ago. And there are no lights on.
