What is the normal idle rpm for 96 cherokee sport 4.0 and has 132,000 on it? Mine is at 1500 no matter what.

The normal RPM is suppose to be 700-800. It could be that the intake manifold gasket is cracked. Is it throwing any codes? If the gasket is cracked, you will get a lean fuel-air mixture code. Go to autozone and they will scan the computer for free. Another possibility is that the throttle position sensor or the idle air control valve is going bad. Hope this helps.
