I just bought a 2004 chevy venture and the manuel with it is in french and of course I cant read french. when the door is opened no dome light comes on. There is a switch to turn the interior lights on but you have to turn them off or they will stay on. On all other cars I have owned when a door is opened the light comes on . there must be a way to make it work but for the life of me I cant figure it out. Help me Please.

Hi Caroline

There are 2 switches related to the dome lights

1 - the dimmer switch for the dashboard located under the headlight rotary switch - If you turn the dimmer switch all the way to the right it clicks and turns on your interior lights, normally this switch should not be all the way to the right, just turn it to the left until after the click and the interior lights will go off

2 - in the overhead console there is a switch that has a bulb with a line through it. Switch it one way no lights come on, switch the other way and lights will come on as required

Experiment with these 2 switches and I think you'll solve your problem - otherwise its an electrical issue which may be too complicated to cure over the web

#3 of 4 Headlight COVERING; Visibility; Scratched? by fleastiff

My local quick oil change place offers a 109.00 treatment for the "glass" (plastic?) covering over the headlights/parking lights assembly. It looks like they treat it with various mild acid solutions and perhaps some abrasives and elbow grease.

I have noticed that the plastic(?) coverings have become clouded, probably due to sandy or dusty roads. Should I simply scrub it with toothpaste or something? Water? Abrasive cleanser?
I sure don't want to pay 109.00 to be able to shine a bit more light on the road at night and to be seen by other vehicles more readily.

I"ve read that toothpaste will work - also in your auto parts store they sell a kit to buff up the plastic and clear it up - when we still had our Venture, I tried a little rubbing compound on one in a small spot and it did clear the haze, I just never did the rest and we solved the problem by trading it in for a new vehicle.
