What is this discussion about? Acura TSX, Sedan

First Drive: 2009 Acura TSX - First Impressions: Acura builds a better TSX for 2009, but it forgets to add a couple must-have ingredients (like chic styling, competitive power and raw desirability) to entice the young, sophisticated buyers it seeks. (more)

Full Test: 2009 Acura TSX - Bottom Line: A more relaxed and sophisticated commuter device than the original TSX, but it no longer makes the cut as a driver's car. (more)

Strange vehicle comparisons by rkyru

The article rightly pointed out the minimal performance/styling advances in this iteration of the TSX, but the author needs to get a math lesson, based on the numbers provided in the article the TSX is 40% more fuel efficient city and 25% more fuel efficient highway then the Corvette, that is hardly what I would call "matching" fuel economy numbers. Also how are the Corvette and BMW 135i comparables? Why not use similar sized front wheel drive 4 door sedans in the upper $20's/low $30's like the Saab 9-3, loaded Jetta GLS 2.0T, or base Audi A4 2.0T? Those would be more illustrative comparisons...

Yes, but would they have ground the proper axes?

This car is mispriced. It is much more expensive that an Accord Coupe V6 and almost as much as BMW128.

according to the article the prices on the 09 have not been announced yet-those prices are for the 08 but they are negotiable.

I have an '04 TSX and just purchased it (it was a lease that I just bought). I love the car, but wanted AWD. I looked at the RDX (base) a month ago, but they wouldn't go as low as I wanted on price ($32K) and I still think the front end needs some touching up on the RDX. I don't like the large headlights. I'll wait for some updates to the RDX.

I don't like this new TSX too much. I'm not a fan of the razor grille Acura has started using. It does look good on the MDX, but not on the sedans. Especially not with mesh below it. I think the center stack was pulled straight out of a RDX. I miss the silver steering wheel. They could have at least used the same steering wheel from the RDX too! I was never a fan of the black buttons on the steering wheel. In '04, all the buttons on the steering wheel were silver and it looks much better. The center stack does not fit this car well. Even in the RDX base, that cheap CD player they drop in there looks too aftermarket-ish. They did the same in the new TSX. The large storage in the center stack has ALL been taken up with the cheap looking CD player. This was a complaint of mine in the RDX too. The CD player does not take up that much space. They could have at least added a small storage compartment below it. Instead, they opted to use this entire space for a cheap looking CD player and a terrible black plastic cap that covers this storage area.

So, Acura downgraded the TSX. This is good, because I was worried about my resale value if they made an AWD version with more HP. Now, I know my car is that much better and should be wanted by more people in a year or two.

Yes, I do have the 6-speed. In '04 75% of the TSX's were Automatic. So, the 6-speed was very hard to find. The 6-speed makes it an entire different car. Like Chris Walton said, it makes no sense that people offer less for used 6-speeds. I guess people aren't buying this car as much for performance. Which is weird, since it is so fun to drive.

The good news is I love my car. The bad news is the new TSX might just kill this model off in three years.

Honda Way by elementrace

I think all Hondas and Acuras are driver oriented. Don't mistake driver oriented and having a 500HP V8 under the hood. Anyone can make a car with big horsepower, ANYONE. But how many companies can make reliable, safe, relatively inexpensive, fun to drive automobiles? You can't compare the TSX to a 1 series or 3 series BMW because when was the last time you could find a unit at the dealer for it's MSRP. Never. They are always optioned up to a certain price point. The last time I saw a 3 series under 30g was in 1999 and even then the dealer said that was MSRP and he only had units that started at 32. And I hope the author didn't really mean that the steering was "digital". Electric does not equal digital. It's POWERED by electricity but the whole thing is still mechanical. I hope he was talking about the programming but even hydraulic units have some sort of programming.

"But how many companies can make reliable, safe, relatively inexpensive, fun to drive automobiles?"

Oh, I don't know - maybe 11. Mazda, Subaru, Mitsubishi, VW, Audi, Pontiac, Saturn, Nissan, BMW, Mini, and Ford come immediately to mind.

"You can't compare the TSX to a 1 series or 3 series BMW."

I agree, but not because of pricing. The TSX used to compare (quite favorably) to the E46 325i in terms of price, size, and performance. Today though, the 1 series is smaller than the TSX, and the 3-series is bigger - and both blow the TSX away from a performance standpoint. Really, this new TSX doesn't hold a candle to anything currently made by BMW.

"It's POWERED by electricity but the whole thing is still mechanical."

I think the author was saying that electrically boosted steering feels more artificial and provides less feedback than hydraulically boosted steering. I agree - and it was a mistake for Honda to make the switch in the TSX. Sure it frees up a few HP (and let's face it, in todays market, the TSX needs every horse it can get), but the side-effects are too severe for a car with sporting intentions.

Personally, I think the new TSX looks pretty nice, but I wish they hadn't softened the moves so much. To use somewhat un-PC terminology - Honda has taken what was a very crisp, sporty sedan and turned it into a "girl's car." Sadly, I predict this one will be a huge success.

The accord is bigger for less money, and the civic is almost as good for $10,000 less.
Guess those acura name tags cost alot of money.

Had an integra and loved it. It would be nice to see a TSX without of the goofy electronics at a $26K price tag.

"The accord is bigger for less money"

The Odyssey is even bigger - why not get that?

"and the civic is almost as good for $10,000 less."

$10,000 less, huh? Lets see, that would be the Civic LX. 140 HP, cloth seats, 16" steel wheels, MacPherson strut suspension. Sure, that's "almost as good" as the TSX.

Jeez, these are the same ignorant comments that I remember from 2003.
