I have a 99 continental with 70k miles that is averaging 26.5 mpg. When I don't take the bus and light rail I'm commuting 84 miles round trip so it is mostly highway. Not as good as the 32mpg I got a few years ago. I am reading a lot about how to tweak more mpg and looking for suggestions from other continental owners. Today I changed the air filter, fuel filter, took 82lbs of junk out, washed it, filled the tires up a bit and started looking at 270 instead of 275s for the tires. I also dumped in some slick 50 snake oil for fuel injector cleaning. I doubt it does anything but it feels good like buying a lottery ticket. I'll post back on what I get for this week after 320 miles. Has anyone tried a new cold air intake? Exhaust? New spark plugs? How do you get to the spark plugs? Any other ideas? Can someone make a carbon fiber hood for me?

Replying to: teufelhund (Mar 17, 2008 2:50 pm) Last week up to today I'm averaging 32.1mpg. That is going a mile to the highway, about 40 miles at mostly 55mph with no stops and then half a mile to my parking lot. I drafted a semi for about 14 miles too. Cheating every chance I get to bring it up. Anyone have any other ideas? I read that synthetic oil might boost it a little? What about a new computer? Can you use one from a mustang with the same engine? |
