I also saw Southland Tales recently. It's strange, needs to be seen more than once, but I really enjoyed it. It stars the Rock, but he's actually pretty good! not an action movie either, written/directed by the guy who did Donnie Darko, so it's moody, odd in a David Lynch way, and suspenseful.

Recently "The Magnificent Seven" was on sale cheap. So I bought it. But having seen it, I got the itch to see "The Seven Samurai". Unfortunately, it was not on sale. In fact, the only version available in Canada right now is the Criterion. But I thought about it, and I am getting old, and I help care for someone even a lot older. And I thought, it might be nice for some of the people at a long term care facility I go to, if they could see it before it is too late. I bought it. I am still looking around for a cheap copy. This is not far fetched. As far as I know, Japan is area 1, so a native Japanese version with English subtitles should play on my DVD player, and if some Japanese immigrant trades one in cheap I could pick it up. If not, I might take in my Criterion. (Big groan.)

Brynner
McQueen
Robert Vaughn

Yeah, I tuned that in but couldn't even watch it to the end. Not as good as I remember. Pretty corny.

I recently saw "The Wild Bunch" though on a similar theme. That still holds up IMO. Great film.

Yeah.. I had to bail out, as well..

I did like McQueen asking the little village kid if he had a sister...

It is better to see some of these "classics" on DVD. I went through most of the extra material before saw the movie. It gave me a basis to appreciate it. It reminded me of the context. And I found out a lot I did not know before. I never knew that it was, in effect Yul Brenner's film. I just thought that he had been hired for it, but in effect, he was the boss.

Then there was the music. Great stuff!

Unfortunately, no cars.

Unfortunately, I'm old enough to remember the context, until we get back into the '50s..

I do like DVDs, but I find with all the extras, it takes me about six hours to get through one!
