The prices for all three of these vehicles, at over $40,000, really shocks me. I think the base Dodge Caravan doesn't even start under $20 grand. The '08 Acadia gets 16/22 in AWD form (new testing procedure), not 17/24.

Replying to: altimadude00 (Mar 10, 2008 7:21 pm) You can buy stripped down versions of all these much closer to that price and still have more features then you would have gotten in a vehicle 10 years ago. When I buy one, I look at it as a 10 to 15 year investment, so the prices quoted don't bug me too much(however I only paid about $26,000 for pretty nice Honda Odyssey EX). Replying to: bobber1 (Mar 10, 2008 7:56 pm) You're right...you can get a pretty well equiped Odyssey/Sienna for under $30K, which can't be said for a CUV/SUV. Inside the biggest difference is space behind the 3rd row, but then you can always load the roof if you can't stand being seen in a minivan!

Why is it that every automotive magazine now has re-define the apples to oranges comparison by doing these pieces on dissimilar vehicles which will ultimately be purchased by very dissimilar people. These articles prove nothing except for the preference of the writers as there is little real basis for comparison. Please do us a favor and stop wasting space that could be afforded to more interesting and useful articles! I frankly don't think there's any argument there. Replying to: drive571 (Mar 11, 2008 2:27 pm) Try telling the Sequoia owner he or she is the same person that purchases an Odyssey--that's where demographics go astray ---sure the Honda and minivans in general are more utilitarian for the average person...but by that logic everybody would own one of the ugly things-----sorry, but some people who need that room, still would rather walk than admit the loss of their attractiveness, put on the sweat pants, and plop till they drop a load of kids into a minivan. Everybody knows that if you don't need to tow anything or ever go "off-road" that a mini-van wins the competition pretty much hands down. Let's face it a whole lot of people own boats, ATV's, snowmobiles, campers, etc. or just plain don't like mini-vans. For those people a mini-van is not even an option. The towing capacity of almost all car based mini-vans is 3500 lbs. Even a small 18ft boat ski boat will weight that much with gear in it, so the mini-van is useless to a family with a boat. And to get a Sequoia with all the luxuxy of a $43k Acadia you would probably be up above $50k so price vs options is definitely a decision that needs to be made if a person is actually trying to compare an Acadia and a Sequoia.
