I learned from blogs it was a defective part several class action law suits. At first they said so sorry, out of warranty. Next they offered to pay 5%, next they offered $2000., next offer was $2750. Over the past month I’ve been through hell without a car. Following the advice on the blogs I went directly to Volvo Canadian or No Amer. main office. They instructed me what to do. I did it and long story short, today I got a call. Volvo is replacing my transmission FREE! Moral of the story… FIGHT BACK. Now all I need is a ride to pick it up
My advice, do not take the car anywhere until you talk to Volvo No Amer or Canada. Let no one touch the car, reset the codes or open the transmission. I could have resolved this much faster has I called Volvo corp office 1st. I spent $550.00 for diagnoses from local mechanic, $295. towing to closest Volvo dealer and about $400-$500 hundred on rental cars. Not happy about that

It doesn't apply to me b/c I sold my 2004 T6 w/ 80K miles in 2010 out of fear the transmission would fail. It was loaded with everything and I only got $8K at Carmax. All trade in prices were way low and everyone cited the transmission problems - even a Volvo dealership. I was looking at a used BMW there. I'll never buy another Volvo again! I feel the settlement should include a payout because you were clearly damaged even if the transmission didn't fail.

Eugene, Just google Volvo No Amer. or Volvo Canadia. Call and ask for Customer relation re Volvo XC 90 transmissions. They will open a case. Tell you where to take your car and then they will contact dealer for you.

Did Volvo resolve the XC90 transmission issues of 2003-2005 with a different or improved transmission in the later year models? Have excessive tire wear, other mechanical problems and electrical problems continued to bug the 2006 through present models?

I can only speak for what Volvo did with my transmission failure to answer your question: they replaced it (at 79,000 miles) with a new transmission at an authorized Volvo dealer that was made from differently sourced parts than what the failed unit was made of. After almost a year on the new transmission (now with almost 90,000 miles on the car), it runs and shifts like a new car; I've had no issues with the work. While Volvo paid for the new transmission, I had to pay the labor. However, the class action suit involving Volvo over this problem is now under way, where those who elect to sign on may be eligible for a 50% return on whatever they paid to have their XC90 transmissions repaired / replaced; that was good news for many of us. Not sure if that helps, but hope you meet with success on yours.
 
As to any alleged electrical / other issues with the XC90s, I've not experienced any such things with mine. I have minimal-to-normal wear on tires and brakes (I drive about 10-12,000 miles p/yr), and all systems work flawlessly (so far).

Has anyone heard of this happen with an 2006 model, i currently own a 2006 XC90 V8...
Suddenly at 20,000 miles i brought it to my dealership because the transmission started to "jump" or get stuck occasionally.... was told nothing wrong cant duplicate.... i brought in again and same story! Then i brought in for 50,000 miles for same issue but happening All the time..... And was told need new transmission! Oh and its out of warranty! said it will cost close to $8,000. I told them its an on going problem had them check it for last 30,000miles its all documented... service department said we will keep car and go over all service records i have had and contact the corporate office to see if they will replace it. They had my car for 6 weeks which is a huge inconvenience, i am a mother of 3 all under age of 5! finally i call to see whats going on and am told well we dont see that you had a service/oil change at this ______mileage... I said yes i did its stamped in my book in glove compartment... done at a friends body shop.
I am told my book is suddenly missing and can't be confirmed so NO GO on a new transmission! My fault because i can't confirm 1 service/oil change....
 
Then i start reading about all these transmission errors on 03-05 T6, but everything thats i have read matches my car! I went to an outside tranny specialist and he found I didn't have to replace tranny yet but a different part now a year later I for sure have to have a new tranny!
 
FUSTRATED have no idea where to go and what to do - ANY SUGGESTIONS

I have a 2006 XC90 V8 AWD with only 61,000 miles and today I was told I need a new transmission and radiator for $7000 by my local Volvo dealership which is the only place I have ever taken my SUV to have work done. Even though all scheduled maintenance and inspections have been done on time and reported no issues. This trans/radiator defect was discovered during one of these scheduled maintenance checks! Are there any recalls for 2006 transmission/radiators? I refuse to pay for this, does anyone have suggestions for how to get a hold of someone at Volvo USA? I have submitted a complaint through their website but want to speak to someone. I also saw something about a class action lawsuit? Any info to get Volvo USA to pay for this would be so appreciated.

Get the phone number for the head office and tell them your situation and be firm that you want Volvo to pay for BOTH parts and labour. This is a well documented fact that they put in a faulty tranny and by no means should a car of this class have a transmission blow up at under 100km or 100 miles. Look up all the web posts and print some off. Tell them you have read numerous cases where Volvo has paid for replacement and labour (not in Canada just parts I'm out $1500 for their faulty tranny) The radiator always needs to be replaced with the tranny and they know exactly what it is all about so make sure you are well prepared and know the facts from the backloads of posts on here!!! Just google for the head office number and get a case file going. They will need your VIN number and it will be easy to see all service records from the Volvo dealership you have gone to. Do NOT do anything until you talk to head office, state you case and be firm that you want this matter dealt with in a timely fashion etc....This should be a worldwide RECALL but they only do it on case by case and a lot of people have just paid the $7000 and Volvo gets away with this! It is disgraceful!!! Let us know how you made out with you call!!!
