Was there any type of warranty associated with the original replacement??

When I had my transmission replaced on my Honda Odyssey, it was warranted for 36 months or 36K miles.

Just a thought.

YES!!! I have the exact same year and model Volvo. I replaced my first transmission at 48,000 miles in Jan. 2008. While on my way to vacation in late August, my second transmission went out at 57,000 miles. Volvo paid for parts only the first time. I had to pay for the labor, $1500. The second time, it was under the 12,000/12 month warranty. I got absolutely no where by complaining to Volvo. There are over 40,000 of these vehicles out on the roads in the USA only, the majority of which I have heard have had transmission problems. I wish Volvo would take responsibility for an inferior product that they put out on the market. They have since corrected the problem in later models which the dealership has tried to sell us. Personally, I will never buy a Volvo again

bad transmission or tires??? by telechicknh

We just bought the 2004 XC 90 T6. I had an 03 Outback that got up our driveway with no problems in any weather. We have have 2" of snow and the Volvo can't climb the driveway. When I get stuck, the front tires spin and the back don't. This is an AWD but it's not working like the Outback.

We are completely shocked. This is not at all what we expected. Does the transmission have anything to do with this? The tires are in good shape.

I live in N. New Hampshire. I expect more snow. Help.

Bad angle gear.

Not an uncommon problem, and not related to tires or type of transmission.

I posted a few weeks ago about our 04XC90 transmission failure at 70,000+ miles. After calling NJ and the local dealer Volvo and the dealer agreed to pay all but $200 of the cost to replace the transmission and the cooling system--which is required when there is a transmission failure. However, the problems with the electronics/computer system remain. This problem was brought to their attention when the vehicle had less than 5,000 miles on it--three different service managers have attempted to fix it and all three have been unsuccessful. Each has worked extensively with the factory and said frankly that they have no idea how in can be repaired. They are also refusing to spend anymore time on it--despite their warranty obligations because they a) paid for the new transmission and b) don't know what to do aside from replace all of the control cluster and computer network.

Ford and volvo should be stepping up to make all 04 XC90 owners whole. These are expensive cars that are nothing but unlimited maintenance liabilities. Volvo for Life..???? The 04 XC90 does not even last the life of its payments!

ya... had to replace my 03XC90 tranny TWICE at like 60 000 something mi (reverse died) and than once more 5k mi after the first change (the first gear was slipping Summer 2008 on a friggin high way entrance, couldn't get the car moving until i stuck it on second!! talk about Volvo for life... my lil' bro was freaking out, he thought i was playing a really really bad joke on him, everyone was hoking and all, i dunno.... hope this current transmission works) the last transmission has been ok tho

BTW if you get extended warranty, don;t go with wynn or whatever insurance.... THEY SUCK.... i filed in a claim for my transmission and they said "sorry, we can not provide you with all the money because of operational costs, and you have exceeded our limit" WHAT THE HECK.... isn't that what buying the warranty was for, soo when you are in mechanical trouble they bail you out!!! err.... not happy.. not happy (BTW i settled with them so that i could only pay 400 dollar of the 6k)

Fortunately I have a Volvo warranty so it has not cost me a dime yet except in lost time and aggrevation. MY mechanic just told me that thay found radiator fluid in my transmission and that was what probably caused the trans to go bad so quickly. I never heard of that, but they are going to change the radiator also. I will probably get rid of the car soon. Have you ever heard of the radiator fluid scenario?

XC 90 2nd tranny installed todayXC 90 2nd tranny installed today I'm picking up the car 12/11/08 in the am. .We have a 2004 xc90 and the 1st tranny went before we had 30k miles and the second at 83k. After the first one went we bought the extended warranty. I'm being told that my charge is $1800. I can't review my ext war since its still in the car BUT... if the basic warrenty is 4 years 50k and i purchused the extended warranty for 50k (total 100k)and it must have been for 2 or 3 yrs on the extended why would i be paying anything? I'm in for the class action, even if they pay all i couldn't sell this car or trade it with its history for any more than peanuts which means i own it till its dead and totally worthless. Can i expect a third tranny any time soon? thanks
