The IPO practice of buying at such a low price ruines this game because the lucky one gets a huge gain in one trade and nulls the game for most players.
It's like a lottery, and is not fair playing an unfair game.
The IPO's here need to have an opening price based on traders average BUY price set before trading starts . Otherwise you will have to place a buy order and a price you are willing to pay before the IPO.

This has been an issue from day one and veteran players have discussed this quite a bit with final consensus being a google style dutch auction where everyone bids and it goes for the lowest bid to everyone.

However, this is a "beta" and I'm sure the code to implement that is not going to appear overnight...indeed, the system maybe designed there's no easy way to do it (that's a mike question)...but this is not an open ended game, it trades on on futures and there's a definite payout at the end. I have made profit on getting lucky on the low IPO and on shorting sky high IPOs, something much easier to do. You know there's going to be a buying frenzy and the price will spike...go for the short. Especially when it's one low volume stock like today. The past week has shown prices will normalize (although there's a limit to that with the first batch because of dead/dormant accounts keeping share prices stable).

Yes, I got lucky on tuesday with a great price on the IPO but there's no way it would put at no. 3 after without my long-term shorts putting me in the top 100 for August. There's more than one way to play the game...but remember, there's 6500 odd players and one winner. It's a bit like a lottery to begin with.

I don't participate in every IPO anymore, mostly because of work. I like the way they're set up in the sense that this is a game. I play games to have fun. I told my wife they're the realtime component to this game. Talk about massive multiplayer online competition. I've hit a few IPO's lucky enough to make big money, It's sort of a Vegas adrenaline rush when you score big. When you don't, at least it ain't real money...
