Price change when confirming trade? by jcardani

I'm trying to figure out why the system chages the stock price from the trade screen to the confirm screen? this seems like a very huge problem, especially when in a split second the value drops and I lose money. The prices fluctuate entirely to quickly in this software. They should at least stabilize enough between the trade screen and the confirm screen, so as to be the same value.

No offfense, but there are a lot of odd things in this game.

Let me know if this is a problem for anyone else.

O.K.,

I just lost a ton of money on the corolla b/c I went to trade it at 528.00 and then confirmed it. It then showed up in my portfolio, with a sell price as 455.00 (or there abouts).

This is becoming a really stupid game when the software doesn't work properly. There seems to be a huge glitch in the pricing of these stocks, and when and how the values change so suddenly.

jcardani,

Did you sell the stock or short it? I just want to make sure we capture this issue as clearly as we can before we address it.

Thanks,

So I went into the Trade feature and shorted the Yukon hybrid at $65.70. In my "My Stocks" list on my Portfolio page this showed up as a transaction at $65.17 and not $65.70. Granted, this was just 1,000 shares, but it shows that there will be a slight discrepancy between at what price you saw the stock and what the price at which the transaction went through. This is because I and perhaps other players were trading that stock and influenced its price (driving it down slightly by shorting it, in this case).

The price discrepancy should only be noticeable when a lot of traders are hitting the stock at the same time and driving it in a particular direction.

We will continue to monitor this activity so as to tweak the transaction triggers (amount of shares it takes to move a stock either up or down and by how much each time) -- because in the end, we want the market to function reasonably for everyone.

Also, keep in mind that when shorting a stock, you will see the inverse price in the Transactions list on your Portfolio page until you "buy back" those stocks at a later time. Here is a more in-depth explanation of this: http://townhall-talk.edmunds.com/WebX/.f188e73/1.

Thanks,

Hey, no problem. Your posts are also helping us. This game is in "beta" -- it's fully functioning and all that, but we're still looking for ways to improve it over the next several months. The activity on these Forum pages allow us to see what players are doing and the frustrations and compliments they have thus far.

Good luck in your trading!

Great game!

I really like this.... I am sure you are getting a ton of suggestions, but what about adding a "cost basis" to the portfolio page. I know I could do this myself (simply divide the value by the # of shares) but I am lazy and would appreciate something like that!

Thank you for your hard work Mike!

butter2000,

I'm glad you enjoy the game and I see your doing very well so far from the Leaders page!

Your suggestion is a good one and we'll take it into consideration as we review the game and changes we could make. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and being so attentive to details on the game pages.

Bolding the "estimated share price" so it stands out would help, it can be easy to look at the "last trading price" and think that's what you're buying/selling at only to realize you got screwed when you go back and look at your transaction history.

I'm going to look at that page in general to see how we can better call out various data points. Thanks for your note.

Best,
